Week 9 REPORT, Week Commencing 16th November 2015

Premier Division – DRS – Duncan Taylor         Duncan.Taylor@essex.gov.uk

Week 9    Rawreth A showed that they are a force to be reckoned, with even when Tony Halling is not in the side. They welcomed back Kevin Read, who showed no sign of tiredness from his paternity leave, to put in a solid display, winning his 3 against Hadleigh Forum. George Reeves also won all his games while Charles Sweeny was denied his hat-trick, losing in five to Dave Bassett, who scored Forum’s solitary point.  Rayleigh Mill came out on top in a tight affair against Warehouse A. Duncan Taylor went unbeaten with Colin Chatfield and Steve Maltby chipping in with a win apiece for a 5-4 win. Chatfield was unlucky not to record another win as he went down 12-10 in the 5th set against Kim Shead in what was the game of the night.  There was a very long evening with many close games as Rawreth D got the better of their C team. Reece Seddon again showed how well he is playing, winning his 3 against the more experienced Mike Hayes, Simon Neale and Steve Buer.  Another close derby match saw Thorpe Bay A scrape past their B team 5-4.  With no one winning all their games, it was the brace from Mark Stones and Paul Sayer that swung the game in the A team’s favour. Kieran Skeggs was in good form for the B team as he recorded excellent wins over Paul Sayer and John Poysden    Duncan

Week 9    Customs A jump to the top of the table again this week with a 5-4 win over Hadleigh Forum C. Roy Thomas again led the way with three, but there was stubborn resistance from Russell Bright and Mark Everard who both won two.  Second placed Hullbridge C had an easier match over Canvey A winning 7-2, with both Pete Saunders and Lin Attridge unbeaten for the home team, although no less than 5 games went to 5 sets.  Third place Rawreth E came up trumps gaining a 9-0 victory against Hockley B without too much trouble. The winning team here was Trevor Ward, Mike Worship and Colin Clements.  Fourth placed Hockley A suffered a setback, going down 5-4 to Warehouse B. Tarun Goel unbeaten on the night and ably supported by Andrew Paton with two to secure the win for the Warehouse team. Tim Pang did well to get two for the losers. They will also need to be on their best as they take on Customs this week and must make some impression so they do not lose too much ground with the leaders.  Hadleigh Forum B keep plugging away at the gap and lead the chasing pack after their 6-3 win over Lentern D. Mick Tappenden scored a hard-earned 3 points and Dave Woolmer added two, with everyone else in the match contributing one point.  Lentern E had a difficult game with Invicta A, who came away with their first 9-0, and only their third win, of the season. The unbeaten team consisted of Michael Piper, Neil Daines and Steve Marr.  In the final game in the league this week, Lentern C returned to form, after losing their previous 4 matches, beating Runnymede 6-3. Les Tayler with 3 and Mike Grout with 2 providing the winning formula with Phil French scoring 2 for the Runnymede team    Barrie

Week 9    This week’s Canvey derby saw the B team destroy their C team 9 - 0. This result puts the B team to within one point of the leaders, whilst leaving the C team rooted to the bottom of the table. There were hat tricks for Talbot Wiseman, Tony Westwell and Lee McGonagle.  Castle Point B are level on points with Canvey B, after coming away with a 5 – 4 win on their visit to Wakering. A hat trick for Keith Neville gave him the man of the match award.  Hullbridge D cling on to top spot by one point, courtesy of another Matt Rolfe maximum in a 6 – 3 away win at Basildon Hospital. Kevin Smart won two for Basildon.  A couple of results for Warehouse C show the club being rewarded for its investment in young talent. In a match recorded too late for last week’s report, young Harry Small’s fine maximum wasn’t quite enough to save his side from a 5 – 4 home defeat at the hands of Hullbridge E. There were two wins each for the visitor’s James Goddard and Adam Jackson, together with a single contribution from Dan Zeffie. This week the side were again on the wrong side of a 5 – 4 defeat, this time away to Rawreth G. It was Andrew Paton’s turn for an un-defeated evening, but two each from Adam and Andrew Deadman, with one win from Aaron Crisp gave the match to Rawreth.  Three victories for Stuart Adshead gave Hockley C a 6 – 3 win at Warehouse D. Brian Bissenden chipped in with two wins and Martin Scarfe got one, whilst Andrew Humphris got two and Tamas Mezo one, for the home side.  Rawreth F had a comprehensive 8 – 1 win away to Castle Point C. John Beddows spared Castle’s blushes. However, Dave Barnes and Jan Thorpe were too good for the opposition.  Debutant Dave Newton was in RESSC’s side for their trip to Hullbridge E. He managed one win, and colleague Ron Coutts got two, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the home team, for whom Adam Jackman scored a maximum, and Kieran Stanley two wins, in a 6 – 3 victory    David

Division 3 - DRS Paul Strutt                                  paulstrut@tiscali.co.uk

Week 9    With Title favourites Invicta B not having a match this week, rivals Hullbridge G moved into top spot, but only after a close match against Hockley D: Hullbridge having a Dave Booroff maximum to thank for their 5-4 victory. They now lead the Division 3 Table by 1 point, but the Invicta side have a match in hand.  2 other promotion contenders met this week, with Canvey D narrowly beating rivals Hullbridge F 5-4: Paul Ogden winning his 3 for the Hullbridge side. This leaves the Canvey side 4 points off of the top, but they have also played 1 match less than leaders Hullbridge G.  Elsewhere in the Division, a Mark Rose hat trick helped Customs B overcome Invicta C 6-3. Ryan Williams was also unbeaten, but it was not enough to save his team, Rawreth I, from going down 5-4 to Warehouse E.  The final match of the Week was the Hockley derby, yet another close encounter, with the E team just overcoming their F team 5-4, but the F's David Chenery, Man of the Match with a maximum    Paul
