Week 12 League Leaders Rawreth A had a comfortable win over their C team, George Reeves and Charles Sweeny with hattricks, but the outstanding match of the evening saw Chris Buer repeat his 2014/5 victory over Kevin Read, winner in recent years of both the Southend & Basildon Men’s Singles Titles. 3rd place Thorpe Bay A had a good win over a strong Rayleigh Mill team, with Paul Sayer man of the match with a well-earned Hat Trick, (3) well supported by Paul Whatton and Alex Abbott each with a brace. Although in 2nd place, Hullbridge A have played 2 more matches than their rivals, but they kept up the pressure on the leaders with an 8-1 win over the Warehouse A side, Adam Brewer and Stuart Gibbs unbeaten and Richard Brown with 2 wins. Fourth place Castle Point A beat Lentern B 7-2, Simon Jacob claiming 3, supported by Barrie Delf and Richard Jackman with a brace each. Mid Table Thorpe Bay B beat Rawreth D 6-3, with Kieran Skeggs claiming a Hat trick for the winners, supported by Gurjit Bhambra with 2 wins, whilst ever improving Reece Sedden claimed a brace for Rawreth. In the final match, Hadleigh Forum A beat Lentern A 6-3 with a Hat trick from Dave Basset, supported by a brace form John Tender. Gus Heath did well with a brace for the Lentern team Duncan

Week 12 The top of the table has just got closer and we now have Hockley teams at the top and bottom of the table. With Hockley A’s 8-1 win over Hullbridge C, they top the table by 1 point. Full houses from experienced players Dave Colwill and Tim Pang saw them take the Hockley team to the top. The one consolation point for Hullbridge came from Pete Saunders who had a good 5 set win over Alan Tideswill to avoid the whitewash. Customs A are then a further 4 points back, but Rawreth E have put themselves back into contention in 4th with a 9-0 win over Lentern E. The unbeaten team consisted of Trevor Ward, Gary McCarthy and Mike Worship and it is likely that the winners and runners-up spot will come from two of these teams. The chasing pack, consisting of Canvey A, Hadleigh Forum B and Warehouse B all need to put in some good consistent performances in the second half to get in the mix and close the gap. This week, a two man Canvey A put in a good performance to come away with a 6-3 win over bottom club Hockley B, with Peter Cray and Ray Wilson unbeaten on the night. In contrast to their A team, Hockley B will need to get some good wins in the second half to avoid dropping straight back down into Division 2 with a little daylight now opening up. Warehouse B came away with a fine 7-2 win over the experienced Lentern C team. Tony Wright and Tarun Goel laid the solid foundations, both with hattricks and an extra point from Ryan Sutcliffe was enough to earn them a good victory. Elsewhere, Invicta A had a close encounter with Hadleigh Forum C going down 5-4. Hadleigh’s points were made up of 3 from Russell Bright and 2 in support by Mark Everard. All the Invicta team contributed with Steve Marr being the pick of the bunch with two wins. Finally two of the teams near the bottom met with both picking up useful points. Runnymede winning the game 5-4 over Lentern D, with Dmitry Kisil leading the way with 3 and Lentern D unlucky with Peter Lucraft and Brian Farmer each scoring two for the luckless Lentern side Barrie

Week 12 With second place Castle Point B’s game against Hullbridge E postponed because of injuries, leaders Hullbridge D took full advantage, extending their lead courtesy of a comfortable 9 – 0 win over Castle Point C. Matt Rolfe, Joanna Hills and Daniel Payne all recorded maximums. Third place Canvey B slipped up again, this time losing 6 – 3 away to Hockey C. It was an all-round team effort for Hockey, with Stuart Adshead, Paul Henley and Brian Bissenden winning two each. Tony Westwell’s pair was the pick of Canvey’s efforts. Canvey’s C team had more success, beating Rawreth G 5 – 4 at home. Ross Warner’s hat trick warranted his player-of-the-match award. Ross was instrumental in the final outcome too. With the tie level at 4 – 4 he overcame James McDowell 13 – 11 in the final set. Despite this reverse, James was still the visitor’s best player with two wins. Wakering had a relatively stress-free visit to Warehouse D. A maximum from Stewart Mills, two from Paul England and a single win from Cliff Noakes, gave them a 6 – 3 win. Week 12 Four of the leading teams in Div 3 were in action this week. Leaders Hullbridge G had a close 5-4 win over Warehouse E, Tony Mollisso and Dave Boorof with a brace each for Hullbridge, but man of the match was 20 year old James Spenser with a great hat trick for his Warehouse team. 2nd place Invicta B had no game this week, which gave 3rd place Hullbridge the chance to close the gap and close the Gap they did with a 9-0 win over Rawreth I. 4th place Canvey D had a good 7-2 win over Rawreth H with Harry Keys unbeaten on the night. Finally 5th place Hockley D beat Invicta c 9-0, Laurie Witte, Dave Cross and Philip Pond all unbeaten Paul
