Lentern B extended their lead at the top with an 8-1 win over their C team. Both John Lott and Gus Heath were unbeaten with John taking the POTM. The consolation point came from Mike Grout over Steve Appleby.  Hadleigh Forum B’s winning run came to an end, possibly at the wrong time of the season, with a close 5-4 loss to Warehouse B. enabling the chasing pack to close the gap. Tarun Goel did the damage and won all 3 of his games in straight sets. Berti and Tony each added one more each to claim the victory, with Mick Tappenden, scoring two for the losers. The Forum team now have to take on League leaders Lentern B next week so could be overtaken by one or two of the chasing teams.  Customs A took advantage of the slip to record an 8-1 won over Hadleigh Forum C who could only field two players, to close to within three points with a game in hand. Roy Thomas and Dale Gutteridge were unbeaten on the night, with the sole point for the Forum team coming from Tony Mace in a win over Brian Rackham.  Rawreth E are 8 points behind Forum B with two games in hand, but I have not yet received the result against Hockley A for this week although the Hockley website is showing it as a loss for the Hockley team.  The last two results were derbies. Canvey A got the better of their B team with a 9-0 whitewash, Terry Giddens, Ray Wilson and Gavin Warner doing the damage, although Peter Cray was unlucky for the losers with two of his games going to 5 sets.  In the final result of the week, a two-man Lentern E managed to beat their D team 5-4. Super Veteran anti-loop specialist Mike Worship, kept his good record going with an unbeaten night and was supported with two points by Brian Spencer. Dave Kirston was the only fly-in-the-ointment scoring a good win over Brian.   There are some delayed/disrupted reports still to come due to the Invicta venue refurbishments

Just 3 matches returned this week: with all 3 turning out to be narrow 5-4 wins. Warehouse D just lost out to Basildon Hospital, for whom Kevin Smart claimed his customary 3 wins, supported by Sid Hills with a brace. For the Warehouse Tamas Mezo also claimed a brace.  Wakering just edged it against Castle Point B, despite Castle Point’s star man, Keith Neville, collecting 3 wins. For Wakering Paul England & Stewart Mils claimed braces each and evergreen Veteran Dave Accleton swung the match gaining the vital extra point.  The final match was between Castle Point C and Hullbridge F, with Hullbridge just gaining the win: Hullbridge’s Jo Hills & David Booroff secured a pair each, with Keith Fullick getting the vital point, while John Beddow claimed a fine hat trick for Castle point.  Results in from earlier weeks, saw Warehouse C win a tight 5-4 against Hullbridge F. Hullbridge’s Jo Hills was the star on the night taking all 3, whilst Micky Baker and Graham Back won 2 apiece for Warehouse. In the other match, Warehouse C were again involved, this time winning 7-2 against Castle Point C, with a fine hat trick for Simon Lisner, ably supported with 2 apiece by Jonathon Allen & Phil Mardle: Richard salvaging 2 points for the losers

Contrasting fortunes for Hockley D who picked up a 9-0 win over Rawreth J only to suffer the same indignity the following week losing 9-0 to Hullbridge G. Jason Stringer, Phil Pond and John Jolley were the successful team for Hockley but Phil, John and Jim Nariel were the players on the receiving end. Keiran Stanley, James Goddard and Adam Jackman won the points for Hullbridge comprehensively with only one match going beyond 3 sets.  There was another 9-0 win for Warehouse E but only because Rawreth H were unable to field a team.  Most significant result of the week however, was Hockley C’s 7-2 win away at Customs C. This has now put them within touching distance of the title and a win by 6 points or more in their next match against Canvey will clinch it for them. This is on April 1 so who knows what could happen! Stuart Adshead led the way again with another hat-trick ably supported by a brace each from Laurie Witte and Paul Henlen but there was a good performance from the improving Mark Rose who won both points for Customs and held a 2-1 lead over Stuart before succumbing 11-7 in the fifth
