WL 14-15 Week 6 Report

Week Commencing 27th October 2014

Premier Division - DRS Duncan Taylor        duncan.taylor@essexcc.gov.uk

With it being Halloween this week, a number of the top sides got their claws out to deliver a number of fright nights for their opponents. First up was Rawreth A who, despite two wins from Gary Young, were able to register a 7-2 win over Hullbridge B, second it was Hullbridge A taking on their C team and coming away with a 8-1 win. Lentern A were the other big winners as they overcame Warehouse A 9-0.  The other teams victorious on fright week were Rayleigh Mill and Hadleigh Forum who recorded wins over Rawreth D and Rawreth B 8-1 and 6-3 respectively. Rawreth Ds consolation win came through an impressive 3-0 win for Chris Nunn over Steve Maltby: we also saw a rare Premier appearance of Andy Nunn, better known for his work the Rawreth Junior Club: Andy played very well throughout, giving all of the ‘Millers’ a good game and adding to a very enjoyable evening    Duncan

 Division 1 - DRS - Barrie Delf                        bdelf@castlepoint.gov.uk

Canvey A are making their move towards the top, winning 8-1 against Invicta A. Ray Wilson and Terry Giddens remained unbeaten with a consolation point from Barrie Murphy stopping Talbot Wiseman from his hat trick. Customs A had another close encounter getting the edge over Canvey B 5-4 thanks again to 3 from Roy Thomas, Peter Cray, playing up for Canvey, scoring 2 in a match where everyone contributed at least one game. Lentern C seem to be dropping away from the top and this week suffered a 6-3 reversal against Hockley A. Ex-premier player and now coach for Hockley, Tim Pang won all 3 for the Hockley Team, with Mike Grout putting up resistance for Lentern with 2 games. Hadleigh Forum C is another team dropping away and also suffered a 6-3 reversal against Rawreth E, Chris Buer doing the main damage with 3 for Rawreth, backed up with a good 2 wins for youngster Justin Jeffery. Russell Bright scored two for the Forum side. In the only other result for this week, Warehouse B won 5-4 against Hullbridge D thanks to 2 each from Tarun Goel and Tony Wright, but neither were able to beat Zoe Davies who ended unbeaten for the Hullbridge side    Barrie

Division 2 - DRS - David Barnes                    dbarnes89@btinternet.com

It was a good week for the two Castle Point teams in Division 2. Firstly, Castle Point B overcame RESSC 7 – 2 away. Martin Roberts was the star, winning all three of his matches. Ron Coutts did well to win his two for the home side, whilst Keith Neville and Tony Ayliffe also won two each for Castle.  Castle Point C were gifted an 8 -1 home win, thanks to Rawreth F only fielding one player. Full marks to Rawreth’s Adam Hill for turning out and winning his team’s one match. John Beddow and Colin Smith were undefeated for the home side. In a close encounter at Runnymede, the home side came out 5 – 4 winners over Wakering, thanks to a maximum from Tony Coeshall. Barbara O’Brian scored the other two, whilst Cliff Noakes got two of the visitor’s points with a one win contribution from each of Dave Accleton and Stewart Mills    David

DIVISION 3 - DRS Paul Strutt                        paulstrut@tiscali.co.uk

Just one result in for Week 6 matches: hopefully all teams will try and send in results promptly in order that their player’s achievements can be mentioned. The one result received was a 9-0 win for Hockley D against their young opponents (from Rawreth Juniors), Rawreth J. John Jolley, David Cross and Jason Stringer have all played well this Season and proved too strong for the juniors, who turned up 1 player short. One important aspect of the match was the first competitive match for Alice Cole. Alice’s father Martin Cole and her uncle Dave Cole have been 2 of Essex leading players for many years and it is great to see the latest member of their family playing in our League. We wish Alice well in the future. Hoping for a fuller Report next Week    Paul
