Premier Division

The highlight this week in the Premier division saw a high quality encounter this week between Thorpe Bay A and Runnymede A that produced many exciting games and the match was only won by "The Bay" in the last game of the night when Alex Abbott beat Stuart Gibbs to complete his hat-trick. In the second 5-4 result it was a Dave Bassett hat-trick that proved the difference as Hadleigh Forum overcame a two man Rawreth B side. Two wins a piece for Django Fung, Norbert Fullerton and Steve Woodley saw Lentern A win 6-3 against Rayleigh Mill. Duncan Taylor proved to be the resistance for the Millers with three wins.
 
In Rawreth Cs 8-1 win over Castle Point A the individual games were closer than the scoreline suggested. Ben Warner bulldozed his way to his usual 3 wins whilst Dave Colwill picked up a rare hatrick with the match vs Simon Jacob a tense five setter. Barry Delf picked up Castle Point's solitary with a win in the final match of the night.

Division 1

Rawreth RESSC are in pole position going in to the final few weeks with a big victory of one of their promotion rivals Hullbridge C beating them 7-2. A Chris Nunn hat trick on the night backed by a brace apiece from Mike Worship and Gary McCarthy gave them the win. Hullbridge had Andy Seaman to thank for avoiding the whitewash with two wins respectively. Another promotion hopeful suffered defeat with Customs A going down 6-3 to Warehouse A. Sam Langton was the star player with a great hat trick on the night which also included a win over Roy Thomas who had only lost one game previous to this. Lentern C also recorded a 7-2 win over Hadleigh Forum B with Les Taylor doing the most of the damage winning his three. 7-2 was the score as well in the match between Hadleigh Forum C and Canvey B with Russ Bright and Dave Thomas securing hat tricks for Hadleigh.

Division 2

There was a welcome win this week for bottom team Hullbridge D, as they overcame RESSC 6 – 3. Tony Molisso, Dave Booroff and Bill Hoy each won two, whilst Sarah Mapes managed two for the visitors.

In a close fought match, Canvey C overcame Hockley B 5 – 4, despite yet another Tony Vassallo maximum for Hockley. Two each for Peter Cray and Lee McGonagle with one from Gordon Johnstone edged it.

Another Dan Payne maximum was not enough to save Hullbridge F from home defeat. They lost 6 – 3 to Warehouse C. Two each from Gordon Child, Darren Launder and Graham Back did the damage.

Bob Shingleton-Smith saved Hullbridge D’s blushes away to Runnymede B. However, maximums from Barbara O’Brien and Steve Giles gave the home side a comfortable 8 – 1 win.

Invicta A were too strong for Castle Point B. Richard Verrinder and Neil Daines were unbeaten; whilst Martin Roberts and Paul Thompson got one each as the home side swept to a 7 – 2 win.

A Colin Barham hat trick gave Rawreth D a narrow 5 – 4 win away to Basildon Hospital. He was ably supported by Jan Thorpe who won the two. Clive Beauchamps won two for the home team with Kevin Smart and Mike Smith getting one each.

David Barnes, Divisional Results Secretary, 2nd Division

Division 3

Wakering had a narrow 5-4 win over Rawreth Juniors A who were a man short. Justin Jeffery was unlucky to be on the losing side winning all his matches and Andy Deadman was unlucky to only emerge with one win. Nigel Cook, Cliff Noakes scored wins over Andy to take the points and inflict only the Juniors second loss of the season.

Customs B were another team only able to field two players and were again unlucky to come away with a narrow 5-4 defeat to Invicta B. Sam Verrinder scored a maximum for the away side, but both Amar-Al-Soufi and Marke Rose came away with two points each for the losers, the difference was the forfeited points.

In the local Hockley E v D derby, it was the E team that came away with the bragging rights winning 6-3 on the night. A maximum from John Jolley with two from Matt Stringer seeing them home despite stubborn resistance from Jim Nariel who scored 2.

Finally, Canvey D proved too strong for the Hockley F team, winning 9-0 and an unbeaten night for Simon and Ray Baker and Ryan Williams.
