SUMMER LEAGUE - WEEK 6 REPORT

SDTTL SUMMER LEAGUE 2014

Week 6 Report

The leaders in Division 1 of the Southend Summer league, Lentern, had an unbeaten performance from Django Fung in their 7-2 victory over Kingswood, where Dave Calleja, making his debut for Kingswood would be pleased with his victory over Ian Rattray. He also combined with Lee McHugh in the doubles to beat Ian and Norbert Fullerton. Hullbridge C continue to have close 5-4 results and this week just lost to the Sandpaper Boys, in a game where no one was unbeaten and everyone was involved in at least one win, which makes for an enjoyable evening for all concerned.

Division 2 leaders Bluehouse had a hard fought 9-0 victory over Warehouse B with 3 out of the first 4 games only being decided in the fifth end and 6 of the 9 games going to 4 sets or more. Hadleigh Forum beat Hockley A 8-1 in what has been described as a really fun evening with many thanks to Hockley for making it so. The one point for Hockley came in the first doubles with a win for Keith Abbott and Dennis Squirrell over Dave Woolmer and Paul Reed, making Tony Jacks the only unbeaten payer on the night.

Mick Worship was his usual outstanding self with an unbeaten performance in leading his RESSC team to a 6-3 victory over Canvey C in Division 3. The comment from the Canvey captain was "It was fantastic to see Gordan Swan back playing again and I am sure we will soon see him back to full fitness" . A comment endorsed by everyone else in the league. Canvey B were also involved in a 9-0 victory away  to Hockley B, winning 8 of the games 3 straight. Runnymede had a close 5-4 victory over Hullbridge E in a game where 5 of the games were decided in the 5th set and 2 others in the 4th set. One that was not, was a good win for Zoe Davies over Phil Digby 10-12, 11-13, 10-12.

Basildon Hospital continue to dominate Division 4 after another emphatic 9-0 win over Hullbridge F winning every game 3 straight with the exception of one singles, where Adam Jackman managed to take a set off Sid Hills. There was a good 6-3 win for Canvey C away at Hockley C, with 4 of their victories being decided in the fifth set and no one remained unbeaten on the night. Chi Cheung was the unbeaten performer in the Warehouse C victory over Castle Point C, who had Richard Riebold unbeaten in his 2 singles, but who continues to serve too long in his doubles games, thus setting up his partners for trouble !!.

Several captains are putting comments on the match results and this certainly helps and I would appreciate even more of you doing so, as it helps me in these articles.
