PRESS REPORT – Sunday 10^th Feb

Torbay Academy extend their lead at the top of the First Division with a comfortable 8-2 victory over Halwell, and maximums for the Academy’s Jakub Piwowar and Patrik Cincala.  There was a terrific match between Brixham Sharks and NA Batmen with all 6 players being capable of beating each other, so there were no maximums, as the Batmen came from behind to win the last 3 sets and take the match 6-4.  Yannick Tushingham was unbeaten as NA Condors defeated basement side Brixham Gulls 6-4.

NA Eagles lost ground in their chase for the Second Division crown as they battled out a 6-4 win at Brixham over the Pirates, with skipper Andy Tyrrell taking a maximum for the Eagles.  Leaders Torbay Academy 2, with Warren Ngai and Esme Suarez undefeated, beat Taverners 8-2 and now lead the Division by 6 points. Brixham Trawlers who haven’t had a win all season, have now won two in a row, and ease their relegation worries, but leave their opponents, Denbury Tykes, 8 points adrift at the foot of the table. Ian Saxby was the star of the show for the Brixham side.  Ed Thompson was in fine form for Marldon, but his maximum only earned his side a draw against a battling NA Falcons.  An excellent Jeremy Broad maximum earned a second draw in a week for his NA Falcons, this one against the Taverners.

In the Third Division, Dawlish Diamonds were busy collecting two wins and rising up the table; Martin Charlesworth and Bruce Freeman were undefeated in both encounters, with a 7-3 win over Brixham Dolphins and a 6-4 win over Torbay Academy 4.  Rob Williams was in fine form for NA Kestrels, as they defeated Torbay Academy 4, who lost 6-4 for the second time in the week.

Hasbeens, running clear at the top of the Fourth Division, had another comfortable win, 9-1 over Torbay Academy 6, with Alan Tyrrell and Mike Coxhead unbeaten for the leaders.  In an all-Torre clash, the Titans beat the Panthers 7-3, Chris Harper and Bill Keywood taking maximums for the Titans.  A Josh Redfern maximum helped NA Kites in their 7-3 victory over Dawlish Drifters, whilst Rowan Bayliss was unbeaten as the NA Owls defeated the Torre Tigers 6-4.

Fifth Division leaders Torbay Academy 7 had a whitewash victory over NA Merlins. Youngsters Kacper Piwowar, William Bevan and Nick Turner were all too strong and quick for the older Merlins. Rob Ferguson, with another maximum for the Ospreys, just overcame the Swifts at Brixham 6-4, to jump back into second spot.  NA Vultures had a 9-1 over a depleted Dawlish Delights side, who are yet to find a win this season
