Backspin A V Bombers

This was billed as a possible championship decider between the top two teams in the league. Backspin are 3 points ahead, but Bombers have a game in hand. The previous game had ended 7-3 to Bombers between the exact same players. Backspin had the consistent David McAllister and two exciting youngsters in Thaaqib Saleem and Liam Ord. Bombers had reliable Ian McPherson with their two talented youngsters, Dan Hutchinson and Max Duffin. Bombers started in the best of fashion with Max beating Dave in 5 and Ian overcoming Liam in 3. Thaaqib took one back beating Dan in 5, but Max beat Liam in 3 to give Bombers a 3-1 lead. Backspin took the next three including the doubles to take a 4-3 lead, but Dan and Max hit back to take the next 2 to give Bombers a 5-4 lead. This left the last game between Dave and Ian to decide the result. Dave came through in 3 ends to give each team a share of the spoils in a 5-5 draw with Max taking MVP with his 3 singles win.

Eagles v Brandon C

A terrific result by the young Eagles team, against a very experienced Brandon team who had the dynamic Ryan Morton with regulars John Parkin and Ian Cumpson. Jack Pugh played his usual measured game and used it to good effect against John moving him back and forth from the table to get him out of position. Haydn Williamson with his forehand drives, drove Ian away from the table to dominate the game. Luke Dumigham used his short serves to gain advantage over both John and Ian. None of the Eagles could overcome the power of Ryan who came through unbeaten and with John Parkin took the doubles, but the Eagles can be proud of a brilliant 6-4 win.

Aces v Birtley

Aces are having a terrific season in the Northumberland league and completed another comprehensive victory, this time against Birtley. Both Ian McAllister and Duncan Fraser were on top form winning all their singles matches, Ian completing his without dropping an end. Duncan paired with Jon Mawson to win the doubles and with Jon Mawson winning a singles, the Aces came away with a comfortable 8-2 win.
