Update from RDTTA Committee

Having sounded out the views of all Clubs in the Reading League, the RDTTA Management Committee has decided the following:

  • we will plan for 2021/22 season league matches to start in September 2021
  • options will be considered for the format of league matches (see below)
  • other RDTTA events will be run where possible, provided there is an organiser
  • the Youth League cannot be run unless someone volunteers to be the organiser
  • TTE and Government guidelines regarding Covid-19 will be followed

Dates for team & player registrations will be published in the coming weeks.

Options for the format of league matches, based on several requests for shorter evenings

  a) Three player teams, 9 singles matches, best of 5 games, plus doubles (current)

  b) Three player teams, 9 singles matches, best of 5 games, no doubles

  c) Three player teams, 6 singles matches, best of 5 games, no doubles (each player plays two opponents)

  d) Two-player teams, 4 singles matches, best of 5 games, with doubles

  e) Two-player teams, 4 singles matches, best of 5 games, no doubles

  f) Three player teams, 9 singles matches, best of 3 games, no doubles

  g) Three player teams, 9 singles matches, best of 3 games, plus doubles

It is anticipated that options c, d & e are likely to be ruled out for the following reasons:

  • many players would not get sufficient playing time to make the evening worthwhile
  • squads of 4 or 5 players would mean players would not play matches often enough
  • smaller squads would generate more teams than many Clubs could accommodate

It is intended that Clubs and players will be sounded-out for their views on these options.

The final decision will be made at the 2021 AGM.

RDTTA AGM 2020 & 2021

The 2020 AGM was not held, due to Covid restrictions.
