Ormesby exert pressure on Urban in title race

Urban TTC will need to win their two matches this weekend to clinch the Premier British League title after Ormesby hammered Drumchapel 8-0.

Tianming Zhao, Darius Knight, Daniel Reed and Joe Cope dropped just one end between them as the defending champions once again fielded a weakened team.

The result leaves Ormesby three points clear of Urban TTC, who play Drumchapel and Ormeau this weekend.

Only two victories will be enough to secure the title due to Ormesby’s superior set ratio.

Meanwhile, Fusion took a huge stride towards survival with a 5-3 win over BATTS.

It was a second straight win for Fusion, and they had Joseph Hee to thank for it once again as his two wins proved to be the difference.

Fusion raced into a 4-0 lead which seemingly handed them victory. Niall Cameron defeated Jack Bennett in five, Lorestas Trumpauskas followed it up with a four-end win over Steve Beerling before James Smith and Hee defeated Ethan Walsh and Peter Cleminson.

But Bennett and Walsh ensured nerves kicked in as they both won in five ends over Trumpauskas and Cameron.

However, Hee secured victory as he came from a set behind to defeat Beerling, meaning Cleminson’s win over Smith in the eighth set was irrelevant.

North Ayrshire are all but certain to finish bottom of the league now, even if they defeat Cardiff this weekend.

Their inferior sets ratio means that, although they would finish level on points with the other three sides with victory, they would still finish bottom unless they pick up a significant victory over the Welsh outfit.
