Northumbria Winter League - weekly league report 12 June 2022

In Division 1 there was a convincing 10-0 win for Mount A against Mount B. The Mount A team of Lee Eadington, Jimmy Scope and Dave Robson proved too strong for the B team of Alan Livingstone, Shirley Gelder and Dave Craddock. In the match between Prudhoe and Cramlington Stingers the Prudhoe team were up against it from the start as they only were able to field two players. Andrew Firth gave Prudhoe a good start with a win over Oliver Ho and Mark O’Connor beat Rob Reed in a close five end game but the rest of the games went to Cramlington who ended up winning 8-2 with Anth Doyle player of the match.

In Division 2 there were four close matches this week. Cramlington Swifts secured their first win of the season with a 6-4 victory over Ouston. Richard Williamson was player of the match with three wins for Cramlington including an impressive win over Bernie Morris and combined with Sam Nair to win the doubles. The match between Durham City Scorpions and Brandon Anacondas ended in a 5-5 draw which kept Brandon in top place in the division. Stephen Pattinson was player of the match with three wins for Brandon but Durham City secured the draw with wins for Ian McAllister and Jonathan Mawson over Ian Richardson and Phil Hansom, and Duncan Fraser over Phil Hansom. In their second match of the week Durham City could only field two players and despite two wins by Harry Veitch and one by Pete Whitfield they ended up losing 7-3 against Tyneside. NECA beat Mount C 6-4 with Ken Lee player of the match for his three wins supported by Will McCallum with wins over Michael Bradley and Joseph Miller, and a Jamie Collins win over Michael Bradley.

In Division 3 Brandon Bravehearts had a convincing 10-0 win against Stocksfield B to consolidate top position in the division. The Brandon team of David Brown, Paul Dale and Phil Hansom proved too strong for the Stocksfield team of David Crompton, Richard Rayfield and Stefan Sobell. The Stocksfield A team fared better against Brandon Fusion as they drew 5-5 with Alex Holliday player of the match winning his three games. However, the young Brandon team of Harry Flynn, Freya Williams and Angelos Gidopoulos played well to secure wins over their more experienced opponents.

In Division 4 there were two all Cramlington games which were both affected by teams not able to field full teams. In the first game Cramlington Cobras beat Cramlington Dynamos 8-2 to go into top position in the division. Cramlington Magpies drew 5-5 with Cramlington Panthers, Rob Hopper was player of the match for the Magpies.
