Northumbria Winter League - weekly league report 31 July 2022

In Division 1 Cramlington Casuals had a convincing 9-1 win over Old England with both James Bradbury and Gareth Pearson winning their three games with wins against Alan Atkinson, Joe Perrin and Lynne Herrington. Tony Slinger added two further wins for the Casuals against Alan Atkinson and Joe Perrin but lost to Lynne Herrington. Mount A had two games in the week but the first against St Chads was forfeited by St Chads which gave Mount a 10-0 win. Their second game was against Mount B which the A team won 9-1 with Steve Penman and Jamie Dent both winning their three games and Jimmy Scope winning two games. The win for the B team came from a Karen Henry win over Jimmy Scope. These two wins put Mount A at the top of the table and in a virtually unassailable position to win the division.

In Division 2 with Tyneside not having a game this week Brandon Anacondas moved to top spot despite losing 6-4 to Durham City Scorpions. Harry Veitch was player of the match for the Scorpions with wins against Jamie Westwater, Steve Pattinson and Ian Richardson. Luke Dumighan and Oliver Wilkinson both had wins over Ian Richardson to secure the win for the Scorpions. The bottom two teams in the division met in the second game of the week and bottom placed Ouston secured their first win of the season with a 6-4 win over Cramlington Swifts. Jeff McKenna was player of the match with wins over Rob Lee, Joe Hastings and Joe Swinburn.  

In Division 3 with Cramlington Tigers not playing Brandon Bravehearts went to the top of the division with a 7-3 win over bottom of the table Stocksfield B. Phil Hansom and Perter Flowers both won three games for Brandon. Stocksfield’s point came from wins by Mark Perrin and Richard Rayfield over David Brown and the pair combined to win the doubles which was the closest game of the match with they pulled back from 2-1 down to win 12-10 in the fifth end. In the all game Backspin match between Backspin A and Backspin B the A team came out on top with a 7-3. Klaus Martin-Rupp was player of the match winning three games, the games against Debbie Irwin and Alex Nicholl were both close games which he won 11-9 and 13-11 in the fifth end respectively. The match between Brandon Fusion and Stocksfield A ended in a 5-5 draw. The experienced Alex Holliday was player of the match with three wins for Stocksfield against the young Brandon players. Harry Flynn and Freya Williams did secure two wins each against Nigel Tree and Pete Seago; and Billy Lee secured a win against Nigel Tree.

In Division 4 Cramlington Cobras maintained their unbeaten record with a 7-3 win over Cramlington Panthers. Roy Hugill and Steve Ralph both won three games, and Roy Hugill combined with Dorian Cheung to win the doubles. The Panthers players Nikhil Smith, Jay Smith and Callum French all secured wins against Dorian Cheung. In the all Backspin match between Backspin C and Backspin D the C team came out on top with a 7-3 win. Graham Burton and Rob Park both won three games and combined to win the doubles. The D team players David Straughair, Steve Wilkinson and Adam Boudabouza all secured wins over Chloe Irwin-Chambers but all three games were close with two going to five ends.
