Northumbria Winter League - weekly league report 19 December 2021

This week was a spare week in the league schedule to enable re-arranged games to be complete before the xmas break.

In the Premier Division Old England Jacks maintained second place in the division behind NECA A with a 7-3 win over Cramlington Casuals. Steve Penman and Neil Herrington both won their three games and combined to win the doubles. The Cramlington team of James Bradbury, Iain Wood and Steve Pearce all beat Jake Helm to secure the three points. The final game between Jake Helm and Steve Pearce was the game of the night with Jake taking a 2-0 lead only for Steve to win the last three ends and take the game 12-10 in the fifth end. St Chads moved into third place after a 7-3 win over Mount A who were only able to field two players. Keith Weatherby with two wins over Jamie Dent and Dan Dodds, Richard Wilson beating Jamie Dent and Paul Baines beating Dan Dodds secured the win for St Chads.

In Division 1 the teams pushing for promotion to the premier division were in action this week. Old England Nomads moved into second place with an 8-2 win over Mount C. Lynne Herrington was player of the match winning three games with Alan Atkinson and Joe Perrin adding two wins each. Only Alan Livingstone offered any resistance for Mount with two wins over Joe Perrin and Alan Atkinson, the latter was particularly close with Alan Livingstone coming back from 2-0 down to win 11-9 in the fifth end. In the all Cramlington game between the Falcons and the Tigers the Falcons came out on top with an 8-2 win, both Anth Doyle and Oliver Ho won their three games and Alan Roskilly one game. This moves the Falcons into third place, two points behind Old England Nomads but with a game in hand.

There was just one game in Division 2 which ended in a 5-5 draw between Stocksfield B and Mount D. Jon Evans was player of the match winning three games and he combined with Howard McCain to win the doubles who won the other game for Mount. The points for Stocksfield B came from two wins by Tom Manuel and Pete Seago, and one win from Nigel Tree. Brandon Bravehearts remain in top spot in the division, closely followed by Tyneside B and then Ouston B.

In Division 3 Saints moved into second place with a 6-4 win over top placed Stocksfield C; inflicting the first defeat of the season on Stocksfield. Tom Marley was player of the match for the Saints winning three games. Steve Dawson won two games and John Cook one game to complete the victory for the Saints.
