Just had the sad news from Ian Langley that Ian  Bennett a NDTTA stalwart from the 50/60/70s has passed away this morning.
It was good to see him at the finals night last year and sad he was too ill to make it this year.

I will write to his wife Anne on behalf of the league offering our sincere condolences.

Ian Tub Bennett  as he was known as was a top Newbury player although never winning the mens singles he was  runner up twice to his team mate Tony Reeves He did however win the Intermediate Singles in 1952/3 season

He was a superb Doubles player and was rarely beaten in the league with Tony Reeves whilst playing for Woolton Hill and he won the Newbury Doubles Championship in years 52/53 57/58 58/59 and 61/62 with Ali Waters Brian Little and Tony Reeves and was runner up 5 times

Ian also won the Mixed Doubles with Heather Masters in 64/65 65/66 and 66/67 seasons and was runner up twice
