Kidderminster’s table tennis league is calling on all players to get their entries in for the individual tournaments, which begin next week at Aggborough.

Though entry is free to all registered players, there have been few entries to date and organisers are extending the deadline in a bid to get more entries in.

This season’s tournaments begin on Monday night (28) with the handicap competition where lower level players are given a head start on the higher ranked players.

The veterans tournament will follow on Thursday night, also at the Kidderminster Harriers Supporters and Social Club.

In the leagues, Bromley A retain their customary position at the top of division one. After being given a scare in their opening game at Bewdley Institute - a four-hour battle which ended all square at 5-5 - the Black Country team have since been in imperious form.

Bromley A fielded a strong team for the return match with the Institute and crushed them 8-2 with Jason Thompson looking in fine fettle. 

The Institute trail Bromley by 14 points with a whole clump of teams behind them and Holy Trinity propping up the table.

In division two Cookley Roundheads A look to be on their way to the title. They lost the opening game of the season to their nearest rivals Wordsley A, but have been unstoppable ever since with Nick Page losing only one match all season.

Wordsley A are five points behind with all their players having win ratios of 70 per cent or better. Harvington A are in third spot with Eric Calver their star performer.

In the third division Cookley Mavericks are unbeaten and look on their way to a deserved title. Matt Stephens and Artur Przewiezlikowski (COR) have been in great form all season but special mention should be made of young Joseph Horne who has played 21 games and is still undefeated.

Bewdley Institute A are favourites to finish second above Harvington B but are 11 points behind the leaders.

A much weakened Kidderminster league team travelled to Evesham to compete in the Inter League tournament and could only manage a fifth place finish behind the overall winners, Evesham.

The individual county championships will take place in Evesham on February 10 and entries need to be in by January 27.
