Dixon injury blunts IBIS

As we approach the half way stage, Burton A consolidated their position at the top of Division 1 of the Kendal & District Table Tennis League, with an unexpectedly comprehensive 24-13 defeat of IBIS. They were assisted, however, by an unfortunate injury to Steve Dixon, 8 times League singles champion in the last 12 years, midway through his match against Peter Baxendale. The injury occurred at the beginning of the 4th game with Dixon leading 2 games to 1. Baxendale went on to complete a rather unsatisfactory 10-12, 13-11, 4-11, 11-1, 11-0 victory. Having said that, the match result was never in doubt with Burton winning 7 of the 10 matches. Natland A secured a comfortable 29-8 victory against Natland B. Tamas Bacsi was man of the match. Andrew Hudson prevented a whitewash with a 6-11, 11-5, 2-11, 11-9, 11-7 win against Louise Thompson. Natland A are still unbeaten and look like being in the mix at the end of the season.

In Division 2, two of potential promotion contenders, Natland C and Natland D, engaged in a closely fought encounter, with Natland C emerging narrow 19-16 winners. Andrea Jorkisch was the star of the show for Natland C, winning all 3 of her singles matches, including a hard fought 4-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-6, 11-5 win against talented youngster Archie Catnach. Meanwhile, Crook B, with a crushing 30-6 victory over Natland E, leapfrogged to the top of Division 2, where they look likely to stay.
