Match Report - January 30th 2017

Resurgent Burton C

 

Natland A are top of Division 1 of the Kendal & District Table Tennis League, with 58 points from 8 matches, closely followed by Dalton Cricket Club A, with 54 from 7 and IBIS, with 39 from 5. The only match played last week saw Dalton B eclipse Burton A by 8 rubbers to 2. Man of the match, Tony Whitehouse and Gareth Brunton each won all 3 of their singles matches and combined to take the doubles. Victories for Chris Knowles and Alan Holt, over Keith Mallinson salvaged a couple of points for Burton.

 

In Division 2, Burton D returned to the top with a 7-3 victory over Burton B. Martin Wakelin, Tony March and Mike Gregory each won 2 singles but were all defeated by an in-form Bryan Rhodes. Wakelin and March came through a very tight doubles, 11-7 in the 5th against Bryan and Shelley Rhodes. Burton C continue their recovery from a slow start to the season with an excellent 6-4 win against promotion chasing Natland D. 2 wins apiece from Simon Gregory and the rapidly improving Jack Wheelhouse and one from James Burton, along with victory in the doubles gave Burton a shock win. Performance of the night was Jack Wheelhouse’s 11-9 in the 5th defeat of the evergreen Mick Taylor.

 

Division 3 leaders, Grayrigg, for whom Patrick O’Reilly won all 3 of his singles matches, extended their lead over Crook C, with a 22-17 win in a closely fought encounter. Kirkby Stephen B moved to within a single point of Grayrigg, with a comfortable 25-12 victory against Dallam D. John Huck cruised through his singles matches in a man of the match performance for KS B.
