Copy Shop now have a five point lead at the top of Division One of the Fun 88 sponsored Isle of Man Table Tennis League after playing their game in hand against Travellers who had been joint top. Strathallan, the third team that had been tying at the top, slipped to second position following a heavy defeat to Arbory who are now just one point behind in joint third place with Travellers.

This week in the Fun 88 sponsored Isle of Man Table Tennis League the first of three Grand Prix events was played. Mark Johnson beat Andy Patterson in three sets making him the overall winner, Patterson took 2nd. Khayee Vinas achieved 3rd place leaving Adam Teare in 4th. Tamarov came 6th after losing to Drewry who was placed 5th.

Following this week’s results there is now a three way tie at the top of Division One in the Fun 88 sponsored Isle of Man Table Tennis League. Strathallan had a rest week but with Travellers A beating Copy Shop A 5-4 all three teams now have 42 points although Travellers have played an extra game.

At the IOMTTA Committee meeting last Monday, we reviewed how Wednesday match-nights are going and agreed a number of slight changes to improve the flow of the evening to help ensure that we finish on time.

Liam Chan retained his Senior Singles Title beating Sean Drewry 4/11, 14/12, 2/11, 14/12, 11/9 in an extremely close and competitive final. He also went on to hoist the doubles title with Malcolm Cummings and later won he Over 40's championship. Maggie Mulhern won the Ladies Singles Title for the 10th time and the Senior Ladies titles for the 19th time out of 20 tries. A full report will be produced by Tim Baker in due course.

Surestrike Ramsey A finished a very successful inaugural season in Division One with their eighth win and finished fourth, just five points behind Strathallan. Travellers A avoided the drop by ten points but bottom placed Tower are likely to remain in the division as their B team has won promotion from Division Two. In the Third Division the teachers from King William’s College did indeed finish the season as the only club in any league to win all their matches.

Copy Shop’s Drewry won his second event in four sets to win the grand prix series with a maximum 50 points.
With six league title wins in a row it was perhaps not surprising that Copy Shop added the inaugural grand prix series to their tally. Interestingly, all teams finished in the same order as they did in the league. Positive feedback from the players to the event organiser Tim Baker indicates that there may be another grand prix series next season.

Tower B took the Division Two title in the DLP Adapted Bathrooms sponsored Table Tennis League by a mere three points in a dramatic end to the season. In the end the first three teams were separated by just nine points and there were only sixteen points separating the next four teams.

Table topping Tower B had a rest week but Peel A only halved the eight point gap as they were defeated by third-placed Travellers B.

Just 13 points separate the next four teams so some close games were expected. True to form three matches were drawn.

Copy Shop A have now won the First Division title for the last six seasons but before the evening third-placed Strathy must have fancied their chances as they are the only team to have beaten the champions this season. Unfortunately for them, history did not repeat itself. In the Third Division the teachers from King William’s College unexpectedly dropped two points but look likely to finish the season as the only club to win all their matches in the League.

A squad of eight youngsters travelled to Guernsey over half-term to represent the island in the British Primary Schools Tournament against some of the best players from Great Britain, Ireland and the Channel Islands. The kit was generously sponsored by OCRA (Isle of Man) Limited an international corporate and trust service provider. The team managers and coaches were the IoMTTA chairman Maggie Mulhern and the Manx Youth Games Table Tennis co-ordinator Malc Lewis.

Sean Drewry (17) retaining the Top 12 title he won for won for the first time last season.In the final play-off he met the number one seed, Sam Bailey . Drewry favoured his fast and furious forehand to beat Bailey in an extremely close and competitive match. Remarkably, both players scored the same total of points as Bailey had won their second set by a wide margin. The position one/two play-off match score was 12/10, 3/11, 11/8, 11/8.

Table topping Tower B stuttered to a narrow 6-4 victory against their fifth-placed opponents in the Second Division. This has really opened up the title race as second-placed Peel A won 8-2 and with a vital game in hand they will play bottom-placed St Ninian’s in what could be the decisive last game of the season.

MATCH REPORT W/E 13 MARCH 2016
The battle for honours in D1 moved decisively in favour of Copy Shop A, as Arbory were beaten 5-4 by Surestrike Ramsey A whilst Tower A’s relegation was confirmed as they were heavily beaten by Travellers A. Tower B’s hopes of taking the D2 title were boosted by their 8-2 victory whilst Peel A suffered a surprise 6-4 defeat at the hands of Surestrike Ramsey B. In D3, Copy Shop D recorded another big win to secure the runners-up spot and will be promoted.

KINGS TAKE THIRD DIVISION TITLE!
New-boys Kings have now secured the Third Division championship in the DLP Adapted Bathrooms sponsored Isle of Man Table Tennis League with 3 fixtures remaining.
The battle for honours in Division 1 moved slightly in favour of reigning champions Copy Shop A whose lead over Arbory grew to 3 points with both sides having 2 matches remaining.

The Ken Page Christmas Cup was played at the end of February having been postponed in December due to the weather. Copy Shop’s Kitty Thomas won, so she took the U'12 title. Surestrike Ramsey’s Jack Craik emerged as winner in the U'14s. Only two players entered the Under 16’s so the final was played between Jack Craik and Alex Yardley. Craik won in straight sets so ended the event with two titles. Walter took the honours in the Plate competition.

Following Arbory’s latest emphatic win Copy Shop A’s lead has been cut to two points in the First Division. Third-placed Strathallan were narrowly beaten by Surestrike Ramsey A so the gap between them is now nine points. Bottom-placed Tower had a rest week as did the current champions Copy Shop A.In the Third Division the teachers from King William’s College are now 14 points clear and have a game in hand of second-placed Copy Shop D.

Travellers B inflicted a rare defeat over table topping Tower B and thus moved up to second spot in the Second Division of the DLP Adapted Bathrooms sponsored Isle of Man Table Tennis League at Bemahague on Wednesday. The win puts them nine points behind the league leaders and two points ahead of Peel A who have a game in hand over both Travellers and Tower.

Copy Shop A trounced Travellers to increase their lead to ten points over Arbory in the First Division at Centre 21 on Sunday. Arbory do have a game in hand however. Third-placed Strathallan whitewashed bottom placed Tower A who remain thirteen points adrift of Surestrike Ramsey A who had a rest week. In the Third Division the teachers from King William’s College collected another ten points and now stand twelve points clear of second-placed Copy Shop D who have played one more match.

The white-wash puts them thirteen points ahead of Travellers B and fifteen in front of Peel A who were lying in second-place but had a rest night and so have a game in hand.

Player availability caused havoc in the DLP Adapted Bathrooms sponsored Isle of Man Table Tennis League at Centre 21 on Valentine’s Day. The top team, Copy Shop A, had to rely on a Division Two substitute to scrape through their match with undermanned fifth-placed Surestrike Ramsey A. Consequently, second-placed Arbory, who were playing bottom-placed Tower A, were able to close the gap to just two points.

A draw between the top two teams enabled third-placed Travellers B to inch move just six points behind rivals Peel A as a result of their 7-3 win over bottom-placed Surestrike Ramsey C. Top-placed Tower B had won all their previous matches but a Malc Lewis hat-trick put Peel A in pole position to cause a real upset. Lewis and Andy McLarney were going for glory at 5-4 up in points and two sets up in the doubles, but Tower came back to snatch the draw.

Copy Shop’s Sean Drewry had won the first event but he, and his runner-up, Sam Bailey from Arbory, both lost out this time on countback to Ramsey’s golf pro Andy Patterson playing for Strathy. This played into the hands of Adam ‘Trigger’ Teare who took full advantage by beating Patty in this round's final.

In the Second Division top-placed Tower B won 6-4 to maintain their five point gap over Peel A who did well to overcome their up and coming Peel B club-mates by the same score. Travellers D called up their coach Paul Nelson who inspired them to an 8-2 victory over their C team club-mates. Third-placed Travellers B needed another Juan Moore hat-trick to overcome relegation zoned St Ninian’s for whom Matt Harvey is continuing to move up the averages.

Just one point separated the top two teams Copy Shop A and theIr adversaries Arbory. Five matches made it to the final set and four matches ended 11/9 so it could hardly have been closer although the 6-3 score would suggest otherwise. Junior Development A claimed their third win of the season while Lilly Byrne and Lauren Allwright from Junior Development B exceeded all expectation by delivering the doubles in their clash with Copy Shop E.

Members of the IoMTTA committee and several willing helpers arrived early to prepare the Assembly Hall at Bemahague School and in general the new venue was voted a success. Top-placed Tower B continued where they had left off and Peel A kept the gap to just five points with another resounding win over lowly Surestrike Ramsey C.

Third-placed Strathallan A consolidated their position with a convincing win over fourth-placed Travellers A. In the Third Division ‘new boys’ Kings clocked-up another 10-0 win and now enjoy a 21 point lead over second-placed Copy Shop D who had to rely on a last minute substitution in order to maintain momentum.
