Tiger Tony Burning Bright - On a Very Busy Night!
Due to a combination of circumstances this was Leopards' third consecutive Wednesday at home in Stowupland.
The opposition this week were the Stowmarket Tigers who, in a bid to reduce their number of outstanding matches, were playing two matches at the same time. Unfortunately, this can spoil the evening a bit with players either playing or umpiring there's no chance to 'chill' and just take things in, heyho, we've all been there, desperate to rearrange outstanding fixtures. As usual the first thing that went out the window was the order of play, which came down to who wasn't playing/umpiring when a table came free.
So to sum up the night, man of the match was Tigers' Tony Giddens who won all 3 singles and some in his other match too. Leopards Keith George and Marcus Hammond had comfortable victories over David Aldous and Richard Stokes. The remaining Leopard Mel Redit didn't have one of his better nights, losing all 3, indeed there was a rare occurrence in that not one of his matches went to 5.
The final match was the doubles, David and Richard took an early 2-0 lead before Leopards took the 3rd, however, the comeback was short-lived with Tigers winning the next and the match 3-1. So on the subject of 5 game matches, this was the first time for Leopards since the first fixture of the season that not one of the matches went to 5. It could have been an early night!
