Tomahawk vs Tornadoes Match Report

Colebridge Tomahawks v Tanworth Tornadoes - by Neil Wheatley

A very competitive and enjoyable match at Colebridge on Monday, had Tomahawks taking on a Tanworth team whose three players were also members of the Shirley club. 41 games later, including 14 with scores of 11-9 or more, the home team secured a 6-4 victory, when undefeated ‘Player of the Match’, Awais Muhammed, partnered Jake Crawshaw to a 5 game doubles win over Tom Shortley and Ben Rycroft-Stanley.

With such an array of attacking firepower on display, ii is surprising perhaps, that the sole defender, veteran Neil Wheatley, should feature in the evening’s closest match, defeating Ben, 6-11, 9-11, 11-9, 13-11, 13-11, saving two match points in the process. Neil had several deuces in his other games, but lost out in four games to both Tom and Jason Rainey.

Ben gave Awais his hardest match, coming back from 2-0 to level the score, before falling 11-8 in the final game, but beat Jake comfortably. Tom also beat Jake, but the latter got the better of Jason in 4 games, each of which, unusually, finished 11-8.

Much to enjoy, topped off by tea and biscuits during the interval.
