Hungarian Open action starts tomorrow

The ITTF World Tour Hungarian Open starts tomorrow – with six English players competing.

Taking place in Budapest, the competition will start with the qualifying group stage.

Competing in the women’s singles is England No 2 Maria Tsaptsinos.

Tsaptsinos, world ranked 211, will face Slovenia’s Alex Galic (WR 84) in Preliminary Round 1 at 2pm UK time.

England’s top five men are also competing.

David McBeath will face Adam Szudi (HUN) while Tom Jarvis plays Stephane Ouaiche (FRA) at 10.40am UK time. Paul Drinkhall is up against the home nation’s Do Phuong Nam at 11.30am UK time. Sam Walker’s first opponent is yet to be confirmed, but he will play at 5.50pm UK time.

The action for Liam Pitchford begins in the knock-out rounds on Thursday. He is seeded eighth in this competition.

In the mixed doubles, Tom Jarvis will play with Wales’ Charlotte Carey. They take on Serbia’s Aleksandar Karakasevic & Izabela Lupulesku at 4pm UK time.

Carey will also partner Tsaptsinos in the women’s doubles, while Drinkhall & Walker are partners in the men’s doubles. Pitchford will play with Belgium’s Cedric Nuytinck.
