Drinkhall run ended by world No 9

Paul Drinkhall had his moments against world No 9 Kenta Matsudaira of Japan before his run in the German Open was ended in the last 32.

The English No 1 struggled to get a run of points going early on, but worked his way into the match by winning the fourth game and then led the fifth 9-5.

But his opponent reeled off the next six points to shut the door on Drinkhall and move into the last 16, where he will face Jeong Sangeun of South Korea.

Drinkhall now moves on to the Swedish Open next week, where he will be joined by Liam Pitchford, David McBeath, Andrew Baggaley, Tom Jarvis and Tin-Tin Ho.
