Phil Brooks was the player of the match, beating all his opponents in straight sets with only Tony Hall giving him a brief scare, taking him to deuce in the first end. No. 2 ranked Paul Matschull backed him up also winning in straight ends but Wayne Grooby pushed him close, losing 9-11, 9-11, 10-12. However, Wayne did get the consolation point for Mayflower with a good straight sets win over the tricky Mick Dodes.
