Bolton News 21 January

Last week in the Bolton & District Table Tennis League the second week of reverse fixtures took place. Flixton ppong A who are cruising well at the top of the Premier Division had an expected win over their own third-placed two-man B team 24 – 11, due to a player failing to show after a family hospital appointment. Second-placed Ramsbottom Town A are a long way behind but had an expected win 23 – 9 over bottom of the table Hilton B with nines from Andrew Jackson and Howard Whewell. Fourth-placed Wharton in the highest position they have had for some years were just pipped 18 – 17 by ninth-placed Radcliffe TTC who were helped by nine points from Kristof Pinter. Fifth-placed Hilton A were beaten by Coburg A one place below them  20 – 16 with Kyan Chin on form with nine for Coburg. Mid-table Little Lever Cricket Club A  beat tenth-placed Ramsbottom Town B 26 – 5  with nines from Ron Durose and Graham Jeffries, Also Mid-table, Burning Desire were able to take advantage of second-bottom Ladybridge A 23 – 8 helped by Brett Haslam on form with nine.

Leaders in Division One are Ramsbottom Town C. They beat Coburg B 25 – 8 with nines from Martin Holt and Terry Taylor. Second-placed Polonia Club A maintained form with a 24 – 12 win over ninth-placed Meadow Ben A assisted by nine from Lukasz Serdiuk. Third-placed Hilton D hoping to give the top two a run for their money beat sixth-placed Wingates 20 – 13 helped by nine from Stuart Wallis. Mid-table Heaton Cricket Club A beat bottom of the table Farnworth Social Circle A who only had two players 20 - 12, but Iain Lindley put up resistance with nine points. Eighth-placed Hilton C lost 20 – 16 to North West Lions two places below who had John Barker on form with nine.

In Division Two, way-out leaders Farnworth Social circle C kept up the pressure with a 18 – 15 win over mid-table Meadow Ben B helped by nine from Ben Wyatt. Ladybridge B have moved into second place. They had a win over bottom team Brass Zone 21 – 13 with nines from John Birchall and john Cole. Third-placed Hilton Top Spinners had an 18 – 15 win over Heaton Cricket Club B now in sixth place assisted by nine from Gary Hilton. Ramsbottom Town D had a  21 – 8 win against ninth-placed Hilton F who only had two eligible players. Hilton Hawks who have slipped to fifth place just lost out 17 – 14 to seventh-placed Lostock Tennis Club despite a resisting nine from Peter McCormick.

Division Three leaders Farnworth Social Circle D had an easy 24 – 4 win over second-bottom Meadow Hill Tennis Club with nines from Pete Walker and David Wyatt. Second-placed Meadow Ben C kept up the pressure with a 24 – 10 win over their own D team with nine from Debbie Wilson. Albany who have been working hard in third place were just pipped 16 – 15 by eighth-placed junior team Hilton I despite a resisting nine from Les Welch. Fourth-placed Hilton G had a comfortable 20 – 11 win over seventh-placed Ladybridge C.
