Bolton News 13th December

The Bolton Table Tennis League had a rest from League play last week while the second round of the Warburton Cup took place. This competition is for all divisions in the league but is divided into two sections to avoid very large handicaps in early rounds.

In the top half of the draw, Flixton Cricket Club A gave Wingates a walkover into the next round as did Ladybridge A allowing Ramsbottom Town D to move on.

In a match between two Division One teams, Meadow Ben A had a 51.5 start but still lost out to Hilton B 374-323.5.

Hilton D in Division One had a start of 58.5, but alas Burning Desire, although lying at the bottom of the Premier Division, were too strong for them winning out 383 – 324.5. Meadow Ben A also had a start of 51.5 yet Hilton B were able to overcome this winning 374-323.5. However, Hilton C made good use of their 72.5 start to run out winners over Little Lever B 395.5 – 340.

In the bottom half of the draw Meadow Ben D gave Farnworth SC D a walkover to the next round. Lee Devenport won all three sets for St Paul’s against Bolton TTC B but with only one more win gained they were unable to overcome the handicap. Bolton TTC B had made good use of their 72.5 start and ran out winners 371.5 – 345. Meadow Ben C had a 51.5 start but did not really need it in their win against Top Spinners 403.5 – 309. Farnworth SC B also had a 51.5 start, but they too did not require it in their 380.5 – 314 win. Farnworth SC C played juniors Hilton H. Although Hilton had a 52.5 start Farnworth won all sets bar one from Hilton’s Nabeel Malji to win 376 – 296.5.

With some results still to come, all matches must be completed by the next round week commencing 29th of January when the two halves will be combined into one.
