Bolton News 14th September

THE Bolton and District Table Tennis League kicked off last week with a new scoring system on trial. Teams are awarded points for the number of ends won instead of sets, making the total points possible for each player nine, and a maximum total of 27 for the team.

In the Premier Division, Flixton CC A set out their stall with a 25-9 win at Hilton A with Stephen Scowcroft getting the maximum nine.

Ramsbottom Cricket Club, a newly-formed splinter team from the Ramsbottom Town squad, took newly-promoted Coburg A to task with a 27-4 away win. There were closer matches with a 20-14 win for Little Lever A at Wharton with Graham Jeffries on form with a maximum nine and a very close 17-20 for Nomads A away to Ladybridge A. Stephen Barber won nine for Ladybridge.

Heaton CC A lost 25-9 to an in-form Radcliffe with Robert Hall and Gabriel Wilding claiming maximum nine points.

In Division One, Burning Desire, who had been relegated due to unexpected results at the end of last season, began their bid for a return to the Premier with a 26-7 win at Wingates, Brett Haslam and Denis Collier winning maximum points.

Another new self-contained splinter group from the Ramsbottom Town squad is Acre Bottom, all but one of them being relegated players from the Premier Division.  They won 27-8 at Little Lever B with all three players on maximum points.

Ramsbottom Town B met Farnworth SC A but both had one ineligible player as a result of not renewing their memberships. This resulted in a 15-14 win for Farnworth which should have been more emphatic.

In Division Three, Top Spinners felt the heat away at Heaton CC B where they went down 27-3.

Relegated Hilton D’s bid to bounce back up suffered a blow by another membership renewal failure.

Their away win should have given them 27 points, but when adjusted became 13-18. Roy Alti and Matthew Fishwick had the two nine wins.

In the game between BRASS B and Ladybridge B both teams had a player left over from a revamped Heaton squad, John Scowcroft and John Hilton. It was Scowcroft who maximised the points for BRASS winning 18-13.

Hilton F edged their game against Heaton CC 19-17 withAdele Spibey on top form for Hilton.

Newly-promoted Boyzone went down 24-10 to Bolton TTC A with Nayem Alam and Peter McCormick scoring maximum points.
