The League’s Senior Championships were held recently at Bishop Perowne CE College, Worcester, with Janet Hunt, Tournament Secretary, in charge of the 10 events held during the day.

Simon Claxton retained his Men’s Singles title which he won last year, beating Lukasz Gatkiewicz in the final - 11-9, 11-4, 11-7.  He had beaten Brett Brining in the semi-final – 8-11, 11-3, 11-8, 11-8.   In the other semi-final Lukasz had beaten Niall Herbert- 12-10, 10-12, 11-7, 9-11, 11-8.

Simon also won the Veterans’ Singles beating Brett Brining in the final – 11-5, 11-7, 8-11, 11-6.  His third title came in the Veterans’ Doubles (Draw for Partner) with Alasdhair Broadbent where they beat Dave Hallam and Paul Pattison - 11-6, 11-7, 14-12.

Lukasz had two further finals successes – in the Men’s Doubles, together with Niall Herbert, they beat Dominic Weston and Ben Meredith to win the title -11-7, 11-7, 11-7, and in the Michael Pye Cup (Division 3) he beat Lloyd Taylor 7-11, 11-3, 11-6, 11-3.

Niall Herbert also had a successful day.  After reaching the Men’s Singles semi-final and his success winning the Men’s Doubles title, Niall went on to win the Intermediate Singles in a very close hard-fought final eventually beating Lloyd Taylor – 11-9, 11-9, 10-12, 7-11, 13-11.

The Tyler Cup - always a very popular Handicap event with, this year, 26 players entering, was won by Lloyd Taylor (+ 3) who beat Graham Thompson (0) in the final - 21-15, 21-10.

The Veteran’s Handicap Singles was won by Steve Dorrell (+2) who beat Dave Hallam (0) - 21-11,   21-18 in the final.

The Martin Birbeck Cup (Charity Doubles) was won by Brett Brining and Steve Dorrell who beat Geoff Burford and David Brown – 11-6, 11-5, 11-8 in the final.

The Doug Young Cup (Division 2) players was won by Daniel Fellows who beat Charlie Burford – 7-11, 

15-13, 12-10, 11-7, in the final.

All players are to be congratulated on the very high standard of play throughout the day.
