Winchcombe Newsletter April

WINCHCOMBE TABLE TENNIS CLUB END-OF-SEASON NEWSLETTER

This year’s end-of-season newsletter is divided into its usual two parts, firstly looking back on last season and secondly looking ahead to next season.

LOOKING BACK

LEAGUE

All our teams can look back on a successful season.  Congratulations to the Cavaliers who retained their Division 1 title, just 2 points ahead of the Roamers in 2nd place; to the Wizards who kept their place in Division 1; to the Vikings who won Division 2; and to the Scholars in Division 3, who won 2 and drew 3 of their matches – and did not finish bottom!

CTTA CLOSED

This proved another highly successful event for WTTC players.  Sasha Grokhotov won the Open Singles and, with Svilen Andreev, the Open Doubles.  Andrew Taylor won the Minor Singles and, with Keith Ferguson, the Minor Doubles.  Svilen Andreev won the Seniors Singles.  Luke Moffat was runner-up in the Open Doubles, Sasha Grokhotov runner-up in the Seniors Singles, Nick Mytton runner-up in the Veterans Singles and Doug Payne runner-up in the Masters Singles.

CLUB TOURNAMENT

Our thanks again go to Nick Mytton for running the Club Tournament this season.  In the Handicap Singles, Lee Wilkinson beat Keith Ferguson and in the Handicap Drawn Doubles, Graham Fisher and Andrew Taylor beat Matt Hartwell and Chris Lane.

IRELAND TOUR

Last weekend saw the much anticipated visit of our friends from the York Road TTC.  Not surprisingly, it proved to be another most enjoyable and successful occasion, both on and off the table, although the match result was a bit too close for comfort this time!  And we’ve already been invited back to Dublin next year!

LOOKING AHEAD

AGM

The Club’s AGM will be held in June (date to be announced).  AGM papers will be sent out to all members in early June.

BBQ

Yes, it’s BBQ year again.  The date is Tuesday 19th July.  More details will follow shortly – but please put the date in your diary now.

2016-17 SEASON

Inevitably, we must start thinking about our teams for next season.  We hope to be able to run 6 teams but we need to ensure that the Club has the players to enable us to do this.  To aid planning, please let me know (preferably sooner rather than later) if - for whatever reason - you will not be rejoining the Club.
