Winchcombe Newletter - April 2015

This year’s end-of-season newsletter is divided into its usual two parts, firstly looking back on last season and secondly looking ahead to next season (yes, already!).

LOOKING BACK

LEAGUE

Congratulations to the Cavaliers who won the Division 1 title, just a few points ahead of the Roamers in 2nd place; and to the Wizards who have retained their place in Division 1.  The Vikings achieved a respectable mid-table finish in Division 2, while the Scholars in Division 3 yet again improved on their points tally from the previous season.

CTTA CLOSED

Pride of place here goes to Luke Moffat who beat Jaspreet Singh in the Open Singles (an all-Winchcombe final for the 2nd year running).  Jaspreet won the inaugural Seniors Singles and was runner-up in the Division 1 Handicap Singles.  Nick Mytton was runner-up in the Veterans Singles, and Matt Hartwell runner-up in the Seniors Singles and runner-up with Craig Norledge in the Open Doubles.  Keith Ferguson won the Minor Singles.

CLUB TOURNAMENT

Our thanks again go to Nick Mytton for running the Club Tournament this season.  In the Handicap Singles, Keith Ferguson beat Chris Lane and in the Handicap Drawn Doubles, Stuart Greene and Keith Ferguson beat John Mytton and Lee Wilkinson.

IRELAND TOUR

Last weekend saw the much anticipated return visit to our friends at York Road TTC.  Not surprisingly, it proved to be another most enjoyable and successful trip, both on and off the table.  The fixture certainly seems set to continue as they couldn’t wait to be invited back to Winchcombe next year.  Watch this space!

LOOKING AHEAD

AGM

The Club’s AGM will be held on Monday 29th June at the Community Centre, Back Lane.  AGM papers will be sent out to all members in early June but, for now, please note the date.

2015-16 SEASON

Inevitably, we must start thinking about our teams for next season.  We will of course be looking to continue to run 5 teams (6 possibly, but certainly not 4) but we need to ensure that the Club has the players to enable us to do this.  What I’ve been hearing on the grapevine suggests that some current members may not be playing next season – to aid planning, please let me know (preferably sooner rather than later) if - for whatever reason - you will not be rejoining the Club.
