April Club Newsletter

This second end-of-season newsletter is divided into two parts, firstly looking back on last season and secondly looking ahead to next season (yes, already!).

Congratulations to the Roamers who won the Division 1 title for the 3rd year running; and to the Wizards who very convincingly won the Division 2 title.  The Cavaliers finished a highly creditable 3rd in Division 1, while the Vikings achieved their objective of retaining Division 2 status.  The Scholars maintained their improvement and doubled their points tally from last season.  Special mention must be made of Jaspreet Singh, who topped the averages in Division 1 (so next season’s handbook will show), Chris Lane for finishing joint-top in Division 2 and Finn Dufty of the Scholars who achieved an average of 33% in Division 3.

Matt Hartwell retained his Open Singles title, beating Nick Mytton in the final.  Matt and Nick then combined to win the Open Doubles and Nick won the Veterans Singles.  Jaspreet was a runner-up in the Open Doubles and won the Division 1 Handicap Singles.  Stewart Ratcliffe was runner-up in the Minor Singles.

Our thanks go to Nick Mytton who took over the running of the Club Tournament this season.  In the Handicap Singles, Graham Fisher beat Stewart Ratcliffe and in the Handicap Drawn Doubles, Graham Fisher and Keith Ferguson beat Stewart Ratcliffe and Darrell Wiltshire.

After a three-year gap, the BBQ is back - on Tuesday 15th July at the Winchcombe Cricket Club, tickets £7.  An open meeting to discuss arrangements etc will be held on Monday 12th May – we hope that as many of you as possible will attend this meeting and be prepared to help in some way either before the event and/or on the day itself.  Look out for a more detailed email shortly.

The Club’s AGM will be held on Wednesday 18th June at the Community Centre, Back Lane.  AGM papers will be sent out to all members at the beginning of June but for now, please note the date.

As you are aware by now, our anticipated visit to Dublin this month was cancelled as not enough club members were able to commit themselves to the trip.  I have assured my counterpart over there that we still very much want to tour but we must get a viable party together for 2015 if our link with Ireland is to be maintained.  Having looked at both Easter dates and school term dates for 2015, the obvious weekend would seem to be April 10th-12th.  Look out for a more detailed email shortly.
