In view of the ongoing situation and the likelihood of more measures to come it is now certain that no competitive table tennis will be allowed for some time.

Consequently we have to come to terms with the fact that the 20/21 season will just not happen.

The biggest problem is the availability of premises for competitive matches and unfortunately we have no real idea when venues will come available again.

On this already sad day, there is more bad news to report. Possibly the oldest surviving member of the Wigan Table Tennis League has passed away as a result of the terrible Coronavirus. Bill died in hospital this morning.

Martin's funeral will be on Monday 6 April at Greenacres in Rainford. It will be at 12 Noon. Obviously none of us will be able to attend but perhaps we can pause for a moment to send our thoughts and best wishes to Jacqui and the family at that time.

In these already troubled times, I am afraid that we need to report some more dreadful news. Our dear friend and colleague Martin Machin has passed away in St Rocco's Hospice, Warrington.

All the thoughts and prayers of the members of Wigan TTL go out to Martin's family at this time.

The committee has now agreed that the 2019/2020 season will be abandoned. All the remaining fixtures have been made void so the season is completely at an end. However if you look at the final tables which are due to be archived shortly, those are not the final league positions.

The decision has been taken to bring the current season in the Wigan and District League to an end, with immediate effect.

From Monday 16 March 2020, no outstanding matches, whether scheduled or rearranged, should be played.

Congratulations to the Wigan Juniors TT team of Yousef, Andrew, Brennan and Matty in winning the North West Regional Junior League.

 

Their division consisted of teams from Glossop (x2) Halton (x2), Altrincham, Formby and Crewe.

The draw for the semi finals is now listed in the League Cup section under Information.

The matches are to be played in week commencing 17 February 2020 at the venue and home night of the first named team.
