Division 1– It was a tentative return from injury for Geoff Williams as Shooting Stars entertained Gnomads. The visitors decided that Eddie Ferris would only contest his doubles games and not play any singles. For Shooting Stars, it was a singles point apiece for both captain, Martin Shoots, and for Geoff Williams, however, it was in the doubles where success came for the home team when, together with Kerry Manicom, ‘Stars’ narrowly missed scoring a maximum with their 8 points. When the forfeit singles points were added, the final score for Shooting Stars was 19 points. Player of the match went to Martin Rant as he and Nigel Foster both scored maximums. With 5 doubles points the final tally for Gnomads was 23 points.

Division 2– Space Invaders hosted Allsorts in a hard-fought match. The home star was Matt Lawrence who just missed his maximum when he scored 8 singles points. Team-mates Margo Baker and Jim Stiles added 1 and 2 singles points respectively. It was a perfect score in the doubles with a maximum 9 points to give a final match score for Space Invaders of 20 points. It was consistent play throughout the evening that saw Allsorts prevail. Player of the match was awarded to the ambidextrous Sifa Vea for his singles maximum. There was solid support in the singles from Mike Lawrie with 7 and Roy Pointer with 6 points. Barbara Parker was Allsorts’ doubles specialist. This match saw a slight setback to their usual doubles points haul, however, the 5 points scored gave Allsorts the win with 27 points.

The fledgling Hawks were at home to Drifters. Captain, Mark Scyner, scored the only maximum of the night for the player of the match award. No further singles points were added for the home team, however, there was success in the doubles where Alfie Southam and Nathaniel Southam each added 3 points when they partnered Mark. Final score for Hawks was 15 points. Drifters could certainly be described as consistent as each player: Liz Fletcher, Andrew Miles and Mike Pretty, scored 6 points apiece. Trevor Stockdale was the doubles specialist for the match and his endeavours added a further 5 points. Drifters’ steady performance was enough to earn them the victory with 23 points.
