The handicap cup competition was the focus for the week as the next round in the group stage was played. Only two cards have been returned with results this week:

The first match saw Roy’s Boys from division 2 take on the current league division 1 champions, Wiveliscombe. The ‘boys’ played well and took maximum advantage of their handicaps. All three players made net gains and top scorer was Di Garner with 57 points. Roy Hooper had an excellent gain of 30 and Barry Hooper a further 19 points. This gave a final total gain for Roy’s Boys of 106 points for the evening. Wiveliscombe put up a good fight but with high handicaps it was too big a task. The only player with a gain was David Woodland with a very modest 3 points, to reduce the deficit for the evening to 103 points. This will make the final group match very difficult for Wiveliscombe if they are to progress further in the cup.

The second match saw division 1 title contenders, Basement Dwellers, entertaining Drifters from division 2. Dwellers experience, pace and spin overcame their heavy handicaps and gains were made by Vince Court with 29 and Mike Vickery with 24 points. For Drifters there were more modest gains from Mike Pretty with 9 and Andrew Miles with 7 points. Final overall score for the evening saw a victory for Basement Dwellers by 24 points.
