Division 1– There are no matches to report this week.

Division 2 – Allsorts entertained Barn Boys in the closest match of the week. Throughout the match the home team scored consistently with both Andy Godfrey and Mike Lawrie scoring 6 points apiece and Barbara Parker with 5. Allsorts were back on form in the doubles where they scored an excellent 8 points to tip the match in their favour with a winning score of 25 points. Barn Boys had the best individual performances with player of the match Steve Palmer and Graham Lamacraft both scoring maximums. With just a single point from Andy Fay and 4 doubles points Barn Boys’ score rose to 23 points to secure second place.

It was a pressure match when division 2 hopefuls Mad Batters took on the junior House Martyn team. In an attempt to try and gain maximum points from the encounter, and clinch the division 2 crown, Mad Batters put themselves under considerable pressure. However, consistent play from the juniors led to many sets slipping away. Jamie Short led the attack with 8 points with Matthew Short scoring 6 and Hamish Cuthbertson 2. Against the odds Batters struggled in the doubles with only 4 points which resulted in a somewhat disappointing final score of 20 points for their efforts.  House Martyns scored consistently throughout the evening with player of the match Joe Burt scoring the only maximum, and both Jack Lancaster and Ellie Baker with 6 singles points apiece. House Martyns kept their heads and concentration to get the better of the doubles with 7 points to take their score to a winning 28, which lifts them to second place in the division.

The top of division 2 could not be any closer. Mad Batters have completed all of their matches and set the target of 367 points to be beaten. With only one final match to play for each of the two other teams in contention it will definitely be a grandstand finish. House Martyns are currently second with 342 points, leaving them only 25 points to score in their final match to catch Mad Batters. Tony’s Troopers are only 1 further point behind in third place. So it could be any of these three teams that will take the honours this year. Hopefully all will be resolved in next week’s report....

CUP:

The first semi final match of the knockout handicap cup was played between Tony’s Troopers and Gnomads. It was only Troopers’ Chris Wickham that made any headway against the visitors with a gain of 34 points. Star player for the evening was Gnomads’ Martin Rant with a gain of 46, supported by Eddie Ferris with a gain of 3. The final outcome was a win for Gnomads by 40 points. This sees them into the final against either Basement Dwellers or Wiveliscombe who are playing their semi final match next week.
