Three First Division sides scored maximum points in the first round of matches of the New Year. Minehead A’s Don Davis and Terry Cadman scored 2 singles points each at Stogumber A. Benjamin Forster top scored for Swallows with 3 singles points in a 7-36 defeat to Basement Dwellers. A depleted Roys Boys side lost 8-36 to Shooting Stars as Martin Shoots, Geoff Williams and Robin Arkell all recorded maximums.
Gnomads fell only 1 point short of a 36 maximum with a 35-10 home victory over Shooting Stars. Eddie Ferris and Martin Rant scored maximums for Gnomads but Nigel Foster was denied his by a 5 set defeat to Geoff Williams.
Drifters top Division 2 despite a 29-15 defeat to House Martyns, for whom Andrew and Joseph Burt recorded fine maximums. St. Audries and Tonys Troopers both amassed 34 points in matches against Hobby Horse. Jim Stiles and Andrew Godfrey achieved maximums for St. Audries and Tonys Troopers dropped their only 2 points in the doubles as Sifa Vea, Kerry Manicom and Tony Burrows all scored maximums.
In the Junior League Jack Lancaster maintained his unbeaten record to help Hawks to a 10-7 victory over Swifts. Nathan Brazier combined with Lancaster to win the all important doubles by 3 sets to 1.
