In the West Essex league, the “Masters”, an event for the top eight players in each division, was held at the Redbridge Sports Centre.

In division 1 semi-final, favourite Darek Zurowski was beaten by Kamil Hajdrych, who won 11-6 in the fifth game. In the final, he met Luca Mariano, who beat Robin Ashleigh in the other semi-final, by 11-2 in the fifth game. Luca was victorious 11-6, 6-11, 11-6, 11-8.

In division 2, favourite Mick Vigon beat Dennis Sweeney 11-8, 11-5, 11-4 in the final.

In the division 3 qualifying groups, there was the closest result in determining the qualifiers for the semis. Three players (Sunil Jindal, Dave Willson and Jeff Green) had all won one match 3-2 and lost 2-3 against each other so it came down to points calculation. Sunil had scored 93 points and conceded only 86 so qualified as group winner. Dave scored 89 and conceded 92 compared with Jeff’s 88-92 so went through as runner-up by one point.

However, both lost in the semi-finals, leaving Joshua Dye to defeat Ryan Broom 11-5, 16-14, 11-7 in the final.
