EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS START TODAY - SATURDAY OCT 8TH

The European Championships taking place in Poland starting on Saturday 8 October are being coverred on LAOLA TV which can be accessed throug the ETTU website which is http://www.ettu.org Coverage starts on Saturday at 10.55 hrs Central European Time which is 9.55 am UK time. Saturday through until Wednesday are the men's and women's team events with the finals of the women's being played on Wednesday afternoon at 15.00 hrs (2.00 pm UK time) and the men's at 18.30 hrs (5.30 pm UK time).

England are sending 4 men and 3 women. Paul Drinkhall from Cleveland, Darius Knight from Surrey, Danny Reed from Cleveland and Liam Pitchford from Derbyshire will be in the men's team and Jo Parker from Surrey, Kelly Sibley from Warwickshire and Emily Bates from Lincolnshire (who is a late replacement for Hannah Hicks, will be in the women's team. The whole England team uses Butterfly equipment.

The Welsh team consists of Ryan and Stephen Jenkins with the Ryan Owen in the men's team and the women's team is Naomi Owen, Charlotte Carey and Angharad Phillips. 66% of the Welsh team are playing with Butterfly equipment.

 The Irish men's team consists of John Murphy, Paul McCreery, Ashley Robinson and Gavin Maguire. 50% are Butterfly players. 

Ther are no other entries for the other nations in the British Isles .

The top seeds in the men's team event are Germany , whose team includes the No 1 Timo Boll, No 3 Dimitrij Ovtcharov and No 4 Bastian Steger. The second seeds are Belarus with European No 2 Vladimir Samsonov with the French in third position and the Czechs in fourth. England are in the top division (the Championship) and play Hungary , Russia and Belarus in their opening group. Wales are i the 2nd Division (the Challenge) and play Belgium Turkey and Finland . Ireland are in the 3rd Division and play Lithuania , Switzerland , Estonia and Kosova.

The top seeds in the women's competition are the Netherlands with Romania second, Poland third and Belarus in fourth place. England are playing in the second division (Championship) with Azerbaijan , Italy and Finland . Wales are in the same Division and play Sweden , Switzerland and Estonia .

 The individual events start on Wednesday with the quarter finals of the singles being played on Saturday with the semi finals and finals on Sunday afternoon.

New Butterfly Products for November

The latest addition to the Butterfly Tenergy range, the Tenergy 64FX, will be available from mid November. This will be the softest and fastest version of the FX rubbers. Suitable for players who enjoy heavy looping from mid distance.
