Higham Harriers A 7 v Wanderers B 3
Ian Bird continued his winning streak without losing an end in this re-arranged fixture against Wanderers B. Pete Briggs making his Wellingborough league debut after a number of years, managing two wins for Wanderers with Paul Goodman adding the third point for his team defeating Graham Bird. Norman Wooster put in a fine performance, winning out 11-4, 11-7, 12-14, 7-11, 11-7 against Goodman and gained a second win against Bob Hickson, in four ends.
Chesterwell B 7 v WDHA Royals A 3
Chesterwell put their disappointment in the Challenge Trophy competition behind them to overthrow the Royals. Carlton Ellwood, unable to gain a win in the cup, winning a straight sets hat trick. He was ably assisted by Graham Ellson who only lost once, in four ends to Virat Patel in the opening game. With Luke Hughes adding a single victory over Amit Shah, the final point of the evening went to an Ellson and Ellwood combination in the doubles, winning 9-11, 11-6, 16-14, 11-7 over Patel and Shyam Bavalia.
Westfield A 5 v Thrapston 5
Table toppers Westfield A lose their 100% win record as they share the points with Thrapston after fielding a weakened side. Patryk Polanski saw off all competition for a hat trick and Stephen Woolston defeated Mark Stockley in 3 for a 4th point and teamed up with Polanski to add the doubles 8-11, 11-7, 8-11, 11-7, 11-8 in a closely fought contest over Ian Donaldson and Chris Warliker, who gained two wins apiece.
St John A 7 v Wanderers B 3
Wanderers B, in their second match in two days ended up with the same score-line, but a notable achievement for Paul Goodman was his 11-1, 4-11, 13-11, 7-11, 8-11, win over Grant Timms as was a victory for Bob Hickson over Pete Boustred. The home team all secured two wins each with Pete Boustred and Timms adding the doubles by the short route as they move up one place in the table.
Wanderers A 8 v Old Grammarians A 2
Wanderers A move into 3rd place with this win over Steve Kendall scored the visitors only points on the evening making light of his match against John Stamp, but struggling against Andy Law, eventually winning 9-11 in the 5th end after losing earlier 11-6 to Tony Wharton, again at the last hurdle with Mick Ball and Phil Laurence unable to gain any ground losing out in straight sets.
Higham Band A 4 v Westfield C 6
This narrow victory saw the visitors move up 3 places to 4th in the league and was mainly due to a fine treble from Steve Fuller and 2 wins for Tim Mason. The two of them then teamed up to take the doubles and seal the victory. Nigel Magee put up the most resistance for the hosts with a good double, Deirdre Kiziak and Pete Martin pitched in with a single win each.
Wanderers C 10 v WDHA Superkings 0
The visitors fielded a very weak team for this fixture including 2 players from division 3. The predictable outcome was a 10-0 thrashing with 3 wins apiece for Tony Wallis, James Findlay and Maurice Jones. The only resistance came from Manav Pandya who took Jones to a fifth end. The whitewash lifted the Wanderers up to 2nd place in the league but they surely won’t have many easier matches than this.
Wanderers D 3 v Westfield B 7
This good away win for Westfield saw them maintain their top spot with maximums from the 2 Charlies (Morrow and Clements). The score line didn’t reflect the close nature of the match with 5 of the games going to a 5th end and 4 more needing a 4th end. Roger Ellingham and Mike Howorth scored single wins for the home team and then Ellingham and Graham Babbage joined forces to record a fine doubles win over the unbeaten Morrow and Clements.
Old Grammarians B 1 v Chesterwell C 9
Chesterwell are now re-discovering their form from last season and this 2nd consecutive 9-1 win sees them well placed in the league with games in hand on all the other teams. Maxine Shears, now back to her best, scored her 3rd treble in successive matches and was ably supported by 3 wins from Stuart Coles and 2 from Clare Coles. The home team’s only point came from Martin Rice who edged out Clare 11-8 in the 5th end and this defeat leaves them rooted at the foot of the table.
Chesterwell E 0 v WDHA Challengers 10
WDHA Challengers hit their first win of the season with a resounding defeat of lowly Chesterwell E with 8 of the 10 sets, including the doubles over in three ends. Hubert Malenda had a close call against Peter Atkins, winning out 11-8, 9-11, 12-10, 6-11, 11-9, Atkins also taking an end from Daniel Bain. Hat tricks for Bain, Malenda and Rishan Ganatra.
Chesterwell D 10 v WDHA Knightriders 0
The second of three fixtures with a 10-0 score-line, this one saw leaders Chesterwell D stomp their authority over the WDHA Knightriders, with all sets being won in three ends. Chesterwell have only dropped two points so far this season and their three regular players Jonathan Driscoll, Duncan Wright and Daniel Mann recording hat tricks.
Higham Harriers C 1 v Wanderers E 9
Wanderers E, currently in 2nd place, 12 points behind Chesterwell D, lost a little ground this week by one point as Steve Hoole lost out to Matt Hicks 11-8, 11-5, 6-11, 10-12, 3-11. David May edged past new player Eddie Stamp 11-5, 8-11, 11-3, 10-12, 11-7. May and Derek Shears taking the final doubles victory 11-5 in the 5th over Hicks and Stamp.
Westfield D 10 v Westfield E 0
The final 10-0 result was an all Westfield contest with the higher ranked D side moving up to 3rd place in the table. There were a few close results but Stuart Holroyd, Asish Nandi and Amrat Mistry all played consistently well to get 3 wins apiece and add the doubles 11-3 in the 4th end.
