Thrapston 9 v St John B 1
In a delayed report, Thrapston virtually killed off fears of relegation, whilst their opponents, who were in need of a big win to keep alive their slim hopes of avoiding a quick return to Division 2, killed off any hopes of staying up by fielding an ineligible player and were without their leading player, Mike Terry. Pete Briggs has proved a saviour for the hosts and duly cashed in winning his games without losing an end. Chris Warliker followed suit comfortably seeing off David Hatherall but needed 5 against the improved Paul Lipczak, winning out 8-11, 10-12, 11-3, 11-5, 11-8. St John B avoided a whitewash with Lipczaks’ 11-8, 12-10, 7-11. 1-11, 11-5 win over Alan Tyler and the doubles win was negated due to an ineligible player.
Westfield A 7 v Wanderers A 3
Westfield A continue to top the table by the slim margin of 1 point and in their latest fixture improved on a first time round draw with a 7-3 victory. Kevin Bird gained his almost inevitable treble without dropping a leg and Travis Holly gained a good brace seeing off Tony Wharton in 3 and Jon Taylor-Burt in 4 but was edged out 12-10, 7-11, 6-11, 11-6, 8-11 by Andy Law. Stephen Woolston in a rare appearance gained a single point in a 11-9, 11-2, 9-11, 15-13 win over Taylor-Burt and Bird and Holly gained the seventh point with a 13-15, 7-11, 11-8, 11-4, 11-4 doubles win over Wharton and Law.
Chesterwell A 10 v Thrapston 0
The hosts, over the years have always found Thrapston to their liking and in a display reminiscent of a few years ago, dished out the second whitewash of the season apart from the hapless bottom markers. Pete Briggs found it a different experience from his other outings against relegation candidates and failed to register but managed to take a leg off both Mike Pond and Valdy Papiernik. Steve West and more surprisingly Chris Warliker were never in the hunt and the hosts cruised home to most emphatic win.
WDHA Royals A 9 v St John A 1
The hosts are well in contention for the title and against a St John side having a troubled season, gained an excellent victory. A below par Grant Timms was well beaten by both Mike Hawes and Abin Islam after opening with a 11-7, 12-10, 11-5 win over Virat Patel. Although gaining an odd leg each, Richard Wills and Jon Perkins never really threatened and but for the poor form of the two promoted sides would well have been in a relegation struggle.
Higham Band A 0 v Wanderers B 10
Nothing can stop the Wanderers on their march to the league title and this week it was the Band Club’s turn to suffer a crushing 10-0 whitewash with only 3 of the 10 games requiring a 4th end. Trebles all round for Paul Goodman, Stewart Williams and Bob Hickson before Williams & Hickson completed the rout with a regulation 3 sets doubles victory. The Band Club’s Pete Martin managed to take an end off both Williams and Hickson but that was about as good as it got.
WDHA Superkings 8 v Higham Harriers B 2
Another solid win for the Superkings sees them open up a 6 point gap on their nearest rivals and they now look favourites for the runners-up spot. Tarun Mistry carded another great treble and was well backed up with doubles from Jack Bain and Dev Patel whilst the Harriers’ Mick Malins replied with a fine double to give the scoreline some respectability. Mistry & Patel secured the home side’s 8th point with a straight sets doubles victory against Malins & Neil Stevens.
Wanderers C 3 v Chesterwell B 7
Chesterwell continue their recent run of good form and this 7-3 away victory sees them edge up 1 place to 4th in the league. Luke Hughes carded another good maximum and was well supported with a double from Maxine Shears and a single win from Clare Coles. Tony Wallis, Maurice Jones and Carl Singh all carded single wins for the Wanderers before Hughes & Coles secured Chesterwells 7th point with a straightforward doubles victory over Jones & Singh.
Old Grammarians A 4 v Stanwick VHTTC 6
Stanwick could only field 2 players for this match against their close rivals but they still managed to win 6 of the 7 games played and hang on to their 3rd place in the league. Ian Baldock carded another fine maximum and Geoff Neville added a further double before the pair of them teamed up to take the doubles in straight sets and secure their team’s victory. Martyn Reeves gained the O.G.s only point of the night by seeing off Neville in 4 close ends.
Higham Harriers C 5 v Higham Band B 5
On their last encounter, Harriers’ triplets, Oli, Matt and Katie Hicks thrashed their opponents 9-1, this time around it was a well-earned draw for the visitors with Deirdre Kiziak and Stuart Futrill with two wins apiece and Devlin Whitmore a single. For the hosts, Kate Hicks was the star performer with two wins, losing only to Whitmore. Kate and Oli forced the draw with an 11-8 5th end doubles victory over Whitmore and Futrill.
WDHA Challengers 10 v Chesterwell D 0
Challengers manage to take the top spot this week as Wanderers D have to postpone their game against their club mates Wanderers E through injury with this anticipated whitewash of Chesterwell D, who were only able to field two players again this week. Daniel Bain and Kishan Mistry had no problems but Chesterwells Gavin Birmingham took an end off Rishan Ganatra, losing out 7-11m 11-7, 11-6, 15-13.
WDHA Rising Stars 1 v Old Grammarians B 9
Old Grammarians didn’t have it all their own way as they stay in the mix at the top of Division 3 with a 9-1 victory over the Rising Stars. Both Colin Lord and Roger Fleming were taken to a 5th end decider by Kavish Dodhia and Ansh Shah respectively, with Shah winning out 8-11, 8-11, 13-11, 11-7, 13-11 over Fleming for his teams’ only point.
