St John B 3 v Higham Harriers A 7
Mike Terry’s excellent season continues and although as predicted he went down to Ian Bird, he won out in a titanic opening leg 19-17 before succumbing 7-11, 6-11, 4-11. He comfortably saw off the much improved Norman Wooster and won out 11-8, 10-12, 111-2, 11-5 over Graham Bird. David Hatherall for St John fought hard to go down 9-11 in the 5th to Graham Bird but Paul Lipczak in his best performance to date, went down 8-11 in the 5th to Wooster and gained his first win, apart from a treble against the bottom markers, winning out 11-13, 13-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-9 over Graham Bird.
Westfield B 3 v St John A 7
The visitors fielded only 2 players and as a consequence the hosts, by default added 3 points to their meagre total. Jon Perkins and Pete Boustred both having a poor season duly capitalised winning trebles against the hosts’ trio of Graham Taylor, Charlie Morrow and Charlie Clements.
WDHA Royals 9 v Thrapston 1
With relegation seemingly avoided the visitors have returned to fielding the side which struggles early season with predictable results. Looking to Chris Warliker to avoid a whitewash, he duly obliged with an excellent victory, winning out 11-8, 4-11, 11-3, 2-11, 11-7 over Mike Hawes but failed to trouble Nitin Patel and Abin Islam. Steve West failed to gain a leg but although well beaten in his other two, Alan Tyler nearly shocked Patel losing out 1-11, 11-8, 10-12, 11-6, 2-11.
WDHA Superkings 4 v Wanderers B 6
League leaders Wanderers B recorded their 12th successive win but were made to fight all the way by the Superkings who are currently 2nd in the league. Another great maximum from Stewart Williams ably backed up with a brace from Paul Goodman and a single win from Bob Hickson made up the victors’ 6 points whilst 2 wins from Tarun Mistry and a single from Himanshu Ganatra kept the Superkings in the match. Mistry & Ganatra concluded the night’s play with a tremendous 5 sets doubles victory over Goodman & Williams, finally winning out 13-11 in the deciding set.
Old Grammarians A 7 v Chesterwell C 3
The O.G.s carded a good 7-3 victory to keep themselves in touch with the 2 teams who are just above them in the league. Martyn Reeves was the only unbeaten player and his fine treble was well supported by solid doubles from Mick Ball and Phil Laurence. Daniel Mann fired a good double for the visitors and he later paired up with Clare Coles to record a good doubles victory against Ball & Laurence.
Wanderers C 3 v Stanwick VHTTC 7
Stanwick gained a good away victory against the Wanderers and their 7 point haul sees them move into joint 2nd place in the league. Ian Baldock’s 11th maximum of the season and a further treble from Geoff Neville did the damage and the pair of them later joined up to take the doubles in 3 straight ends. Carl Singh, Tony Wallis and Maurice Jones all scored single wins for the Wanderers.
Westfield C 5 v Higham Harriers B 5
This clash of the league’s bottom 2 teams ended in a predictable draw but the Harriers probably felt better at the end, recovering from a 5-2 deficit to take the last 3 games and secure the draw. Mick Malins gained the only maximum of the evening and Neil Stevens chipped in with a single win. All 3 Westfield players made a contribution with doubles from Tim Mason and Stuart Jones and a single from Mark Holly. Malins & Stevens secured their team’s draw with a 5 sets doubles victory against Holly & Jones.
Higham Harriers C 8 v Westfield D 2
Harriers C’s triplets reversed their score line from the first half of the season and pushed Westfield D down into 4th place. Matt Hicks, who last time came away scoreless scored a well fought hat tricks, taking both Stuart Holroyd and Asish Nandi in 5 ends and more surprisingly taking Amrat Mistry, their top player 11-4, 11-5, 11-5. In support, Oli and Katie Hicks picked up two wins each, losing out to Mistry and to add salt to the visitors wounds teamed up to add the doubles 11-7 in the 4th end.
Westfield E 2 v Old Grammarians B 8
With Westfield D’s shock result this week, Old Grammarians B move into 3rd place and with a game in hand are poised to jump into 2nd place. Martin Rice picked up his 7th hat trick – without losing an end. David Bayes and Adrian Howes both picked up a brace of wins, losing out to Westfield’s Ashley Pedlar. Pedlar’s set against Bayes was finally won 4-11, 12-10, 11-1, 11-13, 11-8 and Stuart Rae who was scoreless on the night also took Bayes to a 5th end decider losing out 7-11, 12-10, 12-10, 9-11, 8-11. O.G’s B taking the final doubles in an effortless 3 end victory.
WDHA Rising Stars D 1 v Wanderers D 9
Wanderers D are still hanging on to pole position, Roger Ellingham and Mike Howorth both on the hat trick trail and Graham Babbage having to settle for a brace after losing to Ansh Shah 11-7, 4-11, 9-11, 11-5, 7-11 - the Rising Stars only point. It must be said however that the score could have been much closer as two sets went to 5, and 3 sets to a 4th end with the remaining ones close. The doubles finished 11-6, 11-5 and 11-4 to Wanderers to close an exciting match.
WDHA Challengers C 10 v Higham Band B 0
The home side edge closer to the top team after they wipe out Higham Band B, who last time around drew with the Challengers and with a side of 8 players show their collective strength to be in 2nd place. This weeks’ hat trick trio were Rishan Ganatra (3rd) Manav Pandya (4th) and Rahul Jethwa (1st). They were pushed hard with some great play by Deirdre Kiziak and Devlin Whitmore, both taking Ganatra to 5 and the same players bowed out 8-11, 7-11, 7-11 to Jethwa and Pandya in the doubles.
