DIVISION ONE

Thrapston 2 v WDHA Royals 8

Virat Patel maintained his 100% record without dropping a leg although both Pete Briggs and Chris Warliker lost out in a deuce game. Shyam Bavalia saw off the struggling Steve West with ease, then went down 11-9 in 5th to Briggs and 8-11, 12-10, 4-11, 6-11 to Warliker,  Abin Islam also scored a fine treble losing only one leg to Warliker and a 8-2 score-line was achieved in the doubles as Patel and Islam won out 7-11, 7-11, 12-10, 11-4, 11-8 over Warliker and Briggs.

Higham Harriers 10 v St John B 0

For the first time this season a side fielded only two players and were duly punished with a whitewash. For the hosts Ian Bird and Graham Bird cruised home but Norman Wooster found the going tough, before winning out in two, 5 set games 11-7, 11-8, 11-13, 7-11, 11-7 and 11-3, 13-11, 11-13, 7-11, 11-8 over Steve Mansield and Paul Lipczak respectively.

DIVISION TWO

Higham Harriers B 5 v Westfield C 5

This proved to be a very close match with 7 of the 10 games needing a 5th set decider. No player remained unbeaten on the night and all of the Harriers’ team made a contribution (Bob Collyer 2, Neil Stevens 2 & Mick Malins 1). For the visitors, Stuart Jones & Mark Holly both recorded doubles before teaming up to earn a well earned draw by taking the doubles with a 15-13 scoreline in the 5th set against Collyer & Stevens.

Chesterwell C 2 v Old Grammarians A 8

The O.G.s gave another solid performance with an 8-2 away victory over Chesterwell whose Daniel Mann scored their only points with a fighting double. Mick Ball’s 3rd successive treble together with a brace each from Phil Laurence & Martyn Reeves made up 7 of the visitors’ points before Ball & Reeves took the doubles in 4 ends, giving them their 3rd match win in a row and moving them up to 3rd place in the league.

Stanwick VHTTC 7 v Wanderers C 3

Stanwick recorded their 4th consecutive victory but their stay at the top of the league proved to be short lived as they now slip down to 2nd place. Maximums from Ian Baldock & Geoff Neville who later took the doubles in straight sets made up Stanwick’s 7 points whilst all 3 of the Wanderers players, Tony Wallis, Maurice Jones & Carl Singh got the better of Kevin Tivey.

Wanderers B 9 v WDHA Superkings 1

The Wanderers played 2 matches this week and a pair of thumping 9-1 victories sees them storm to the top of the league. In this match, trebles from Paul Goodman & Stewart Williams, together with a double from Bob Hickson proved to be too much for the Superkings whose Himanshu Ganatra prevented the whitewash, gaining their only point with victory over Hickson. The Wanderers 2 maximum men then defeated Ganatra & Tarun Mistry in straight sets to take the doubles.

Chesterwell B 1 v Wanderers B 9

The Wanderers second 9-1 victory in successive evenings turned out to be almost a carbon copy of their first, this time Chesterwell B being the unlucky victims. Paul Goodman & Stewart Williams gained further maximums and they both now have 100% records after 4 matches. Bob Hickson again gave solid support with another good double before Maxine Shears gained Chesterwell’s solitary point with victory over him. To end the night, Goodman & Williams took the doubles in straight sets against Maxine Shears & Stuart Coles.

DIVISION THREE

Old Grammarians B 7 v Westfield E 3

Despite the final outcome of this match, Old Grammarians were pushed all the way in 4 of the 10 sets, unfortunately all going in their favour. Adrian Howes was the only player to be pointless on the night as he lost out in three ends to Westfields trio of  Roy Smyth, Iain and Stuart Rae. Colin Lord and Roger Fleming recording hat tricks and taking their team to second place with a game in hand.

Higham Band B 5 v WDHA Challengers C 5

Deirdre Kiziak’s hat trick for Band B helped level the score against Challengers, aided by Stuart Futrill who scored twice. Kishan Mistry was unlucky in against both players, losing at the last hurdle, 11-13 and 10-12 respectively. Daniel Bain also won twice with Hubert Malenda collecting the final singles against John Yeates. Malenda and Bain added the doubles in three ends to make the match all square, their 3rd draw in as many weeks.

Wanderers D 10 v WDHA Rising Stars D 0

Wanderers D proved too strong for the Rising Stars with Roger Ellingham, Graham Babbage and Mike Howorth taking all sets in 3 ends. This win puts them up into 3rd place.

Westfield D 8 v Higham Harriers C 2

Westfield D remain top for the second week running amongst some strong opposition. Amrat Mistry recorded his 3rd hat trick and was supported well by Stuart Holroyd and Asish Nandi with two comfortable points each. Harriers Kate Hicks had a glorious win over Nandi 11-0 in the 5th after just winning 13-11 in the 4th end. Oli Hicks defeated Holroyd in 3 but Holroyd teamed up with Mistry to take the doubles 11-9, 11-8, 7-11, 9-11, 11-5 over Kate and Matt Hicks.
