Semi Final Results
WDHA Raj Riders C (240) 419 v Stanwick VHTTC (0) 439
Chesterwell B (0) 423 v WDHA Challengers B (140) 384
WDHA Raj Riders C (240) 419: (Rushabh Patel 34/132, Paresh Shah 58/132, Aum Lakhani 72/131)
Stanwick VHTTC (0) 439: (Graham Taylor 132/63, Ian Baldock 131/59, Joe Peckham 132/42)
This was a superb semi-final and the hosts forced to field a reserve who had only played 9 games and recorded 1 win did extremely well to take a powerful Stanwick so close. The visitors taking no chances perfectly legally, if surprising, fielded top Beds junior Joe Peckham. With the Cup Secretary and the Chairman in attendance the match opened dramatically with Graham Taylor restricting Rushabh Patel to 7 points and the handicap looked light. The hosts battled gamely with Paresh Shah just over handicap in his 2 games against Ian Baldock and Taylor. Hero of the night for the hosts was Aum Lakhani, who gained a leg against Baldock, the highest score against Peckham and put them back in the game with a massive 33 points against Taylor in a 10-11, 6-11, 8-11, 9-11 defeat. Unfortunately for the hosts, game 9 saw the reserve Patel go down 8-11, 2-11, 4-11, 1-11 to Baldock and needing 35 points at the doubles, Lakhani and Patel went down 3-11, 4-11, 5-11, 3-11 to Baldock and Peckham and whilst sides rarely win in the cup beow full strength, the home side could look back on their performance with pride.
Chesterwell B (0) 423: (Johnathon Driscoll 123/67, Luke Hughes 127/84, Daniel Mann 130/66)
WDHA Challengers B (140) 384: (Daniel Bain 69/130, Kavish Dodhia 64/130, Hubert Malenda 83/120)
This was another excellent cup tie with the final winning margin somewhat flattering to the hosts. The first 6 singles were fiercely contested but in each the visitors finishing 2 or 3 points below handicap. Game 7 saw Hubert Malenda, in a terrific battle with Luke Hughes gaining 34 points in his 11-6, 10-11, 4-11, 9-11 defeat. With the match finely poised Daniel Bain and Kavish Dodhia faltered badly, going down 5-11, 3-11, 5-11, 2-11 and 5-11, 0-11, 7-11, 4-11 to Daniel Mann and Johnathon Driscoll respectively which left a herculean task at the doubles which was not forthcoming and Hughes and Mann won out over Bain and Dodhia 11-9, 10-11, 11-3, 11-5 to mean the top 2 sides from the 2nd division will compete in the final. A statistical quirk was that although the top two sides in the second division reached the final, not one of the other eight won a game. Food for thought!
