Chesterwell B (54) 382: (Johnathon Driscoll 99/118, Daniel Mann 104/121, Luke Hughes 94/122)
Stanwick VHTTC (0) 396: (Joe Peckham 122/86, Ian Baldock 122/93, Graham Taylor 116/118)
In the first final of the newly named Marchant Memorial Challenge Trophy in honour of the late chairman, Ken Marchant, Stanwick VHTTC won an excellent final by the narrow margin of 14 points. This meant that Stanwick achieved a rare promotion and cup double on top of being voted ‘The Team of the Season’.
Chesterwell B opened poorly with their skipper succumbing to nerves in the first two ends, going down to the heaviest singles defeat of the night. However, to the delight of all, he fought back strongly to gain an 11-8 and 11-6 win in the next 2 legs. With the next four games all being shared, Driscoll put his team in the driving seat with a superb 11-9, 11-8, 11-10, 10-11 win over Graham Taylor.
Despite it being a blind handicap, Stanwick seemed to realise they were slightly behind and in the last 2 singles raised their game and Joe Peckham and Ian Baldock gained two 4-0 victories. These were against Driscoll and Hughes 11-7, 11-10, 11-3, 11-4 and 11-10, 11-6, 11-9, 11-4 respectively.
The doubles arrived with Chesterwell B taking into account the handicap, 9 points behind. In a fluctuating double Peckham and Taylor increased this by 5 points in a 9-11, 11-2, 11-7, 5-11 shared games with Hughes and Mann.
