It is with great sadness that I have to announce my sister Denise Barnett, 58, passed away, at home, on 24 March 2018 after a short illness. A very well known disabled table tennis player in the Wellingborough League, playing for Waendal Warriors, Westfield and St Marks table tennis clubs, a tough opponent playing from a wheelchair, who would rather fall out of her chair than give away a point.

A strong committee member and volunteer, she was Northants County Secretary for over 20 years, as well as during this time she held the post of Secretary to the British Table Tennis Association for the Disabled based at Stoke Mandeville, a hospital where she underwent numerous operations to reconstruct her leg following a moped accident in 1979.

She competed for the British Team in Germany and Ireland and helped in the bid to gain funding for the Westfield Table Tennis Club alongside Dave Marsh and has helped numerous players to progress in their sport, taking on a coaching role when she could no longer play competitively.

He funeral takes place on Friday 13th April at St Andrews Church, Berrymoor Road, Wellingborough, at 11.45am and will no doubt be standing room only, as she has touched the lives of so many people.
