Warwickshire Over 60s claim a final excellent victory

Warwickshire Over 60's gained a dramatic 6-4 win at home to Nottinghamshire last weekend in their final County Championships Div 1A fixture of the season, which should be enough to guarantee a final mid-table position.

Warwickshire  again built up a commanding 5-1 lead, but struggled to close out victory which was only achieved in the final game of an absorbing contest when John Taylor partnered Marion Dixon to success in the second mixed doubles by the closest of margins 7-11,11-8, 5-11, 11-9, 11-9.

Earlier, Warwickshire's strong position came via two convincing singles wins from Pat Glynn, who also partnered Marion Dixon to a crucial five set success in the first mixed doubles, whilst Dixon played well to see off Betty Godfrey in four sets in the ladies singles, and Phil Paine contributed a further success in his opening singles.

Nottinghamshire fought back strongly, with singles successes for Alan Philpott, who retrieved a two set deficit to overcome Paine in a five set thriller, Mick Pestka, and Bob Hume.
