St George's were held to a draw by Over in Division 1, recovering from 5-3
down. Martin Gray won his singles for the Saints, but junior Nick Rate

III, but coming unstuck against Impington, for whom Tony Martin and Paul

29 Oct 06 NCI NO HANDICAP FOR SAINTS
In the only first round match in the Handicap Cup, St Georges whitewashed
NCI 5-0 an all first division clash with two wins each for Martin and Kevin
Gray and good support from Clare Macrae who won one.
St Ives II beat their clubmates from St Ives V, overcoming the twenty points
start with some ease and running out 6-3 winners in a brought forward 2nd
round match.
In the league Haverhill continued their impressive start in Division 1 with
a victory away at Cambridge. Rob Cushen gained his first maximum of the season
ably supported by Maria Bolton who also won three singles.
Glenn Harrison who normally plays in division 3 stepped up a division and
won three singles for NCI II in their victory over St Georges in the second
division. However in a rearranged fixture things did not go so well for NCI
and they lost 8-2 to Impington who now move up to second in the division
with a fourth straight victory. Unfortunately with Tony Martin going on
his customary work expedition to the Amazon for the next three months they
may not be able to maintain this position.
Also in the second division Cambridge University are now finding their feet
and had an impressive draw with title favourites RCG Stapleford.

Gray won three singles for the Saints in both matches but Matthias Carl

wins for Impington V in their 6-4 victory over NCI V. Impington VI beat
Over IV 6-4 although one of Over's juniors, Nick Bradley, won 2 singles
matches.

Matthius Carl continued his run of good form for Cambridge with maximums in
their wins over both Haverhill(6-4) and SohamII(8-2) in division one. Soham
I and Impington shared the points in their fixture with Colin Rayner and
Andy Harrison winning two each for Soham and Dave Rowell and Reno Phyo
responding for Impington. Over put in a good all round performance in
beating NCI 6-4 although David Tiplady was back to winning ways with a
maximum for the 'Stutes'. St Georges II gained an unexpected bonus against a
weakened University coming out on top 8-2.
In division two St Ives II beat Cambridge II 7-3 in the battle for second
place with Reuan Williams and Sid Burgess both winning three singles each.
Robert Finchams three victories ensured Cambridge II recovered from their
defeat to St Ives by beating Impington II 8-2 to return to second place.
Cambridge also recorded a useful victory over the improving Soham III team
6-4 with Jim Carswells defensive game proving too consistent for the
visitors.
Also in division two Ray Thorpe's three wins and a first win for Chris Gannon
enabled Priory to keep the scoreline respectable in their 6-4 loss to St
Georges III.
Tuong Dang and Glen Harrison both won three singles as NCI IV beat CIBA 8-2
to maintain their position at the top of division three. Closest challengers
RCG Stapleford II beat Haverhill III 8-2 but then had their promotion hopes
dented when losing 6-4 to Over III. St Georges IV had a good win over Soham
IV with both Darren Wakerly and Martin Hagon winning three whilst Impington
III had a useful draw against Fulbourn with the highlight being Helen
Arnolds win over Jim Reary.
In division four three wins each for Alf Styan and Derek Barns enabled St
Georges V to beat St Ives V 8-2 whilst Fulbourn II had an identical win
against Over IV thanks to maximums from Jon Chapman and Jeff Douglas.

19 Feb 07 NO HANDICAP FOR IMPINGTON
Impington II easily overcame the handicaps of Fulbourn II with Bob Pettit,
Brian Judd and Howard Morley each winning two singles in a comfortable 6-0
win in the third round of the Cambridge and District League handicap. NCI II
also progressed 5-4 against University II who had similar handicaps with
Alan Spackman winning the deciding game for the winners.
In division one of the league Soham I were very unlucky to come up against a
very strong University team and went down 10-0. David Atkinson made a rare
appearance for the students and along with Stanley Khang and Devesh Shete
made a mockery of their league position and if the sport were horse racing
they would be reported to the 'Jockey Club'.
25 Feb 07 LEADERS HELD
Division one leaders St Ives title ambitions received a setback when they
were held to a draw by Impington in the Cambridge and District table tennis
league. Tim Speller and Reuan Williams both won two matches for St Ives
whilst Reno Phyo responded with two wins for the visitors. Matthias Carl's
recent run of good form came to an end when he failed to win any games in
Cambridge's 8-2 defeat by a very strong University team represented by Dave
Atkinson, Stanley Zhang and Ben Roberts. A good all round performance by Rob
Cushen, Maria Bolton and Tony Reardon saw Haverhill overcome Soham II 7-3
although Clive Woollard won all three games for Soham. Soham I paid the
penalty for being a player short and went down 7-3 to Over for whom Barry
Hagger and Roger Fensom were in good form with three wins each.
In division two St Georges II staged a good fight back recovering from 1-4
down to beat promotion challengers Cambridge II 6-4 with Rob Pownall and
Andy Mcguire winning two singles each. Soham III continue to impress and had
a comprehensive 10-0 whitewash over University II which they then followed
up by also beating Impington II 7-3.
In division three NCI IV continued their march towards promotion with a 7-3
win against Over III and an 8-2 victory against Haverhill III. Glen Harrison
continued his current good form with maximums in both matches and he was
well supported by Tuong Dang and Albert Jackson.
Impington IV beat NCI V 8-2 in division four with three wins apiece for John
Bray and Dave Harrison whilst Impington V just managed to beat St Ives V
6-4 although it was good to see Tim Nicholson winning two matches for the
visitors.
In a recent County Veterans Div 4b match Cambs II crashed 9-1 to Essex V
with Tim Wootton recording their only success.
5 March 2007
Impington I had a very convincing win against Over I in the first division
of the Cambridge and District Table Tennis League. Three wins each for Dave
Rowell and Reno Phyo backed up by two from Jeff Catlin gave them a 9-1
victory which belies their lowly position in the bottom half of the table,
whist Over are currently in the top three.
In division two Soham III continue to improve and recorded another
impressive performance winning 7-3 against St Georges III. It may be too
late for them to get into a promotion spot this season but if Christian
Mohan can maintain the form he showed in this match it is still a
possibility. He was well supported by brother Kieran and dad Liam who both
won twice whilst St Georges two wins came from the very solid defensive
display of Hugo Brown. Also in division two, leaders Stapleford whitewashed
a two man NCI II team 10-0 whilst another team pushing for promotion, St
Ives II, with Reuan Williams and Richard Wells gaining maximums, had a
comfortable 8-2 victory over Impington II.
In division four Cambridge IV with three wins for Tom Browne and two each
for Sam Pickup and Mark Dawkins beat St Ives IV 8-2 with Barbara Pace
winning two for the -3 losers. Sawston recorded a 7-3 victory over Impington
IV although John Bray was unbeaten for the losers including coming back from
2-0 down against Victor Riecansky winning both the last two sets 13-11. St
Georges VI, with Martin Garner unbeaten on the night, proved too strong for
Impington V running out 8-2 winners with the loser's two wins being recorded
by Dave Harrison.
12 March 2007
Last seasons champions St Georges, kept their hopes of retaining the title
alive with a 6-4 victory over Soham II although Martin Freeland recorded a
good victory in five sets for Soham over Kevin Gray. Despite David Atkinson
turning out and winning three for University they were still beaten 6-4 by
Haverhill's good all round performance. Impington recorded their second
comprehensive victory in two weeks this time at the expense of St Georges II
who now look favourites for relegation. NCI, with Mick Harper making a rare
appearance with three wins drew with Cambridge.
In Division two Impington II, with the return of Tony Martin from his
globetrotting travels, drew with St Georges III. Hugo Brown just failed to
win three singles for the Saints losing in five games to Bob Pettit. In the
same division NCI II, with a maximum for Sid Dunster overcame University II
6-4.
Toung Dang and Glen Harrison both won three singles as promotion favourites,
NCI IV beat Impinton III 8-2 in Division three. Fulbourn, still with an
outside chance of promotion, whitewashed Cambridge III 10-0 with the latter
almost certain to be relegated from the division. Another team with
relegation fears, Haverhill III, picked up usefull points in their battle to
avoid the drop when losing 3-7 to Over III.
In Division four another maximum from Val Parkes ensured a 7-3 victory for
Bassingbourn against the juniors from St Ives V who only lost 4-6 to St
Georges VI with newcomer Daniel Pedley winning two singles. In the inter-
club clash between the two Impington teams the fourth team still overcame
the fifth team despite being a player short.
19 Mar 07
A very strong St Georges I are making a customary late bid for the first
division title with an easy win over Impington 9-1, Impingtons solitary win
came from a good performance by Reno Phyo over Kevin Gray. Current leaders
St Ives beat both Over and Soham II 6-4 although Over's Barry Hagger recorded
a good win over St Ives Simon Pryke. These two close wins for St Ives may
just have left the door open for St Georges to sneak the title with some
good results from their games in hand. Three wins by Matthias Carl for two
man Cambridge enabled them to come away with a draw against Over whilst
Haverhill have temporarily moved into second place with a 7-3 success
against Soham I.
In division two Soham III moved up to third with an emphatic whitewash
against University II.RCG Stapleford consolidated their second place in
division three by beating Soham IV 8-2 including the customary three wins by
Tony Comisky.
Owen Davies proved to be the thorn in Fulbourn II's side yet again when
winning three although his Over II side lost 3-7. Fulbourn followed up their
win against Over with another 7-3 success against CIBA who also lost 2-8 to
Over II.
Cambridge IV remain unbeaten in division four and recorded a 10-0 whitewash
against NCI V and are now installed as firm favourites to win this league.
Three wins by John Bray, backed up by two from Mike Friday enabled Impington
to earn a hard fought draw against St Georges V. A good all round
performance by Fulbourn II enabled them to record a narrow 6-4 victory
against Sawston.
26 Mar 07
St Georges I, strengthened by the inclusion of Steve Annison, continued
their late assault on the Division one title with a 10-0 whitewash over
Impington I and followed this up with a 7-3 victory over second placed
Haverhill. Steve Trevanion won three singles in St George's seconds 3-7
defeat against Cambridge whilst Barry Hagger's three wins proved the
difference in Over's 6-4 victory also at the expense of St Georges II.
A good all round performance saw Haverhill II record two wins, beating NCI II
6-4 and Priory 7-3 in division two. Priory welcomed the return of Alan
Badcock from injury which enabled them to record a 6-4 victory over NCI II
who in turn put in a good performance to beat University II 6-4 at Fenners.
In division three promotion hopefuls RCG Stapleford recorded another big win
by 9-1 against St Georges IV with maximums for both Tony Comiskey and Chris
Badger. In the same division Over III convincingly beat CIBA 10-0 losing
only six games in the match. The divisions leaders NCI IV with three wins by
Tuong Dang managed to beat Fulbourn I 6-4, although Fulbourn were without
their best player but Jim Reary played well in winning two and the doubles
with Ju Young.
Sawston had an easy 10-0 victory over the juniors of Over IV in division
four whilst St Ives IV beat Bassingbourn 8-2 with Terry Bailey the only
winner for Bassingbourn. Fulbourn II with three wins by Jeff Douglas beat
Impington V 7-3 whilst Impington IV and Haverhill III played out a draw.
2 Apr 07 SETBACK FOR ST IVES
St Ives hopes of taking the first division title took a severe set-back when
they were comprehensively beaten 9-1 by a very strong University team who,
if they had played the same team throughout the season, would have been in
contention themselves. Current champions St Georges with their strongest
team of Kevin Gray, Martin Gray and Steve Annison whitewashed Impington 10-0
to move into top spot and establish themselves as favourites to retain the
title. Haverhill recorded an impressive 7-3 victory over NCI with Tony
Reardon recording three victories including the scalp of David Tiplady.
In division two RCG Stapleford continue to lead the table with good wins
against Soham III 7-3, and Impington 9-1 although they were held to a draw
by Cambridge II with Jim Carswell winning three singles. Cambridge II
however lost a little ground in their bid for promotion when losing 6-4 to
St Georges III although Sam Pickup playing up from division four managed two
wins. Three wins by Sid Dunster for NCI II paved the way for their 6-4
victory over University II.
NCI IV reinforced their position at the top of the division three with a
comprehensive 9-1 victory over Soham IV whilst a strong Fulbourn also
managed a 9-1 victory over Haverhill III. Soham IV also managed a draw with
Cambridge II who appear doomed to relegation unless they win their remaining
fixtures. Terry Edwards making a rare appearance for Over III won all his
singles which proved the difference as they beat Impington III 6-4.
The unbeaten juniors of Cambridge IV march on at the top of the fourth
division beating well placed Sawston 10-0 and Impington V 8-2 and look
certain to win the division. Bassingbourn beat NCI V 7-3 with three wins for
Val Parkes whilst John Bray also won three singles as Impinton IV narrowly
beat bottom club St Ives V 6-4.

09 April 07 SAINTS GO MARCHING ON
Despite Dave Atkinson inflicting first defeats of the season on Martin Gray
and Steve Annison it was not enough to stop St Georges from beating
University 7-3 and with it take a big step to retaining the first division
title. University also lost out to NCI 6-4 with David Tiplady again winning
three for the 'Stutes' whilst Impington increased the pressure on Soham II
in their fight to avoid relegation by winning 7-3 which included three wins
for Mandy Mills. St Georges second team suffered yet another defeat, this
time at the hands of Soham I, and seem certain to be relegated.
In division two RCG Stapleford clinched the title with a cleen sweep against
St Georges III whilst Cambridge II put themselves back in the promotion race
with a 10-0 whitewash against Haverhill II. Soham III continue to make a
late charge for promotion and their 7-3 success against Haverhill II puts
them just two points behind second placed St Ives II.
NCI IV continue to dominate in division three beating St Georges IV 9-1 with
Tuong Dang and Glen Harrison winning three each and it seems only a matter
of time before they clinch the league title. Fulbourn I beat Over II 6-4
with Ju Young having a good win over Terry Edwards and Impington III beat
CIBA 9-1 with Cliff Mackay winning the solitary set for CIBA.
John Bray's three victories for Impington IV saw them beat higher placed
Fulbourn II 7-3 in division four and St Ives IV gave nothing away as they
beat their clubmates from St Ives V 10-0.

17 April 2007
The Mohan Family recorded another win for Soham III by beating St Georges
III 7-3 in division two of the Cambridge and District table tennis league.
This win moves Soham up to second spot in the table but third placed St Ives
II recorded an 8-2 victory over NCI II thanks to maximums from Reuan
Williams and Richard Wells. With a game in hand it looks as though St Ives
may snatch the second promotion spot but the fight will go right to the last
matches of the season. Glen Harrisons three wins when playing up from
division three enabled NCI III to move away from the relegation zone with
valuable points in an 8-2 victory over Impington II. Haverhill II's position
looks precarious after an 8-2 loss to Impington II for whom Howard Morley
and Paul Grammer both won three singles.
In division three Matt Farlie's three wins helped Haverhill III to valuable
points in a 5-5 draw with mid table Soham IV. NCI IV are already assured of
promotion as champions in this division with RCG Stapleford favourites to
finish second.
St Ives IV with a 10-0 success over Oakington are now in a strong position
to gain promotion by finishing runners up in Division four although unbeaten
Cambridge IV with an 8-2 victory at St Georges VI will finish as champions.
25 April 2007 - Saints edge ahead
Three wins by Steve Annison enabled St Georges I to beat NCI 7-3 in the
first division of the Cambridge and district league extending their lead
over second placed St Ives to eight points. David Tiplady of NCI did however
inflict a rare defeat on the Saints Martin Gray. Haverhill, following
promotion last season, look as though they will finish third which will be
their highest ever position in the top division. In their final match of the
season they defeated Impington 6-4 with maximums for both Rob Cushen and
Maria Bolton. St Georges two gained an unexpected win 6-4 against a two man
Cambridge team but it is too late for them to avoid the drop to division
two. Soham II gained a 10-0 whitewash over a very weakened Over team which
has ensured their status for next term.
In division three RCG Stapleford continued their challenge to finish as
runners-up with an 8-2 victory over CIBA thanks to maximums from Tony
Comisky and Dan Bates. Haverhill III with a recent run of good results,
including the latest 5-5 draw with St Georges IV, should manage to retain
their third division status.
A very tense match in division four saw St Ives IV crash 8-2 to Sawston but
the two victories enabled them to secure second spot behind the unbeaten
Cambridge IV team of youngsters. Fulbourn II will finish in third place
following a disappointing 6-4 win over St Ives V for whom Bernie Shannon won
three which contributed to St Ives fouth team snatching second spot.
