Les Constable's report on the season

This season saw New Chesterton Institute again obtaining top place in Division 1 of the league but from now on there was to be a threat from the North of the County in the shape of Soham who were worthy runners-up. Soon we would see the appearance of Paul Day as a young teenager and who would make his presence felt in no uncertain way. John Thurston was still in evidence but John Cornwell had now departed from the season through injury and many former glory boys were departing from the scene. Cambridge University headed Division 2 and therefore would now appear next season in Division 1 although with these Varsity teams one could not always rely on them to produce a useful team bearing in mind the change of students from year to year.
