Les Constable's report on the 1959-1960 season

The 1959/60 season saw New Chesterton Institute once again take the title with a total of 35 points and incidentally not losing a game in the process. University Press were runners-up with Wesley close behind with all the other teams well behind. Great Ouse River Board and YMCA II were relegated. John Thurston again played a big part in NCI's win.

In the second Division Impington VC 1 gained top place and promotion with Tony Haslop playing a big part in the College's win. In second position was NALGO I who also gained promotion. Hospitals I and RAF Waterbeach I were relegated.

In the third Division Pest Control I topped the division with Cherry Hinton in second place with Gas Board II and Fire Brigade II going down.

In the fourth division Wilburton I won the division with Junior YMCA in second position. Pest Control II and NALGO II finished in bottom positions.

In Division 5 Torchbearers II finished well on top with Abington also gaining promotion. Press II and Torchbearers III had to think of Division 6 for next season.

In Division 7 there was a tie in points at the head of the division between Soham Methodists and Kerridge with the former team winning on better sets average. Central Youth Club were wooden spoonists.

It is interesting to note that the following teams did not lose a match during the whole of the season:- New Chesterton Institute I in Division 1, Pest Control I in Division 3, Wilburton in Division 4 and Torchbearers II in Division 5. In Division 5 Torchbearers III did not win a match and only gained one point and Central Youth Club only gained two points in Division 7.

In the United Hospitals Cup Chris Reeve was successful in the Final against Tony Haslop of Impington after both players had easy wins in the semi-finals. Reeve was always too good for Haslop and won in two sets.
