Les Constable's report on the season
New Chesterton Institute again headed the first division but there was an
intense struggle in the end with Newnham, Trinity College and Dreadnought
all in contention. NCI had the same team as the previous season and Les
Betterman won the singles in the Closed Tournament by beating Frank Jeffrey
in the Final after some good play. Henry Pink and Wally Allen were the
other semi-finalists. YMCA headed the second division and so were promoted
to the first division which was more in their line. Cambridge beat Oxford
8-2 in the Inter-Varsity match held at the Corn Exchange before a good crowd.
Cambridge players involved incleded R.A.Edwards, F.S.Aldercotte and R.Pryor
who had played for Cambs some time or other.
In a friendly match against Northampton, Cambridge won 7-2 with the two
up and coming Cambridge Juniors John Cornwell and John Thurston winning
all their games.
