The University squad celebrate their success

This seasonīs event saw an entry of 72 local league players, a big improvement on the last few seasons.

County No.1 David Atkinson equalled Keith Richardsonīs record of four wins in the competition overcoming Cambs No.2 Martin Gray in an entertaining final. Atkinson also joined forces with University colleagues Glyn Eggar and Arti Krishna to take the Menīs and Mixed Doubles trophies against Kevin & Martin Gray and Fred Pauquay & Lingxue Wang.

Lingxue Wang proved to be too strong for Ladies County Champion Clare Macrae in the Ladies Singles final. Unfortunately she is only at Cambridge University until October and will not be able to represent the County.

She also took the Ladies Doubles title with Arti Krishna when Clare Macrae damaged an ankle in a Veteranīs Singles semi final match against Jeff Catlin.

Catlin went through to reach the final of the Over 40īs Veterans Singles, but was unable to defeat County Veteranīs No.1 Mick Harper.

The Mohan family from Soham had quite a day as Father Liam was beaten by Howard Morley in the Over 50īs Veterans final. There was some silverware for the family though with eldest son Keiran coming back from 2-1 down to defeat youngest son Patrick in the Mixed Cadet Singles final. Patrick (+30) also succumbed to older brother Christian (+29) in the Handicap Singles final. Christian & Keiran joined forces to beat Patrick and his partner David Jolley in the Junior Doubles final.

St. Ivesī Stephen Pickering was victorious in the Junior Boys Singles proving by far the strongest player in the event not losing a leg in any of his matches. His opponent in the final was Moumen Kuwaider from the Fulbourn Club.

Joanna Pope from the Over Club became the Junior Girls champion. She overcame Amy Catlin with both girls playing in their first tournament.

Sean Murray from the St. Ives Club became a double champion winning the Restricted Singles against Ian Alberts and the Drawn Doubles in partnership with Thorsten Paarmann against Arti Krishna and Howard Morley.
